Book Description
"A Sister's Blessing, The Spirit Within", is an inspirational true-life story about an identical twin's journey with cancer. In the following chapters, you will be able to hear and feel the events that took place in her life. It is the heart-wrenching account of a family that witnessed firsthand what a disease can do to a person's body, mind, and soul. It begins to teach us that it is not in order to question why things happen, but to simply accept that they do, and that it is the unknown that makes us afraid. In my sister Charlotte's twenty-month journey you will further be touched by her strong faith and unrelenting will, her tools that allowed her to face each and every day. We learn how her faith gave her strength and patience to go on, and how it eventually took her to her glory! You will understand through her how each day can become a brand new awakening. In the two and a half year journey you will also read about the loss of a brother as well. You will witness how a brother's hope gave him the courage to hold his head up high each day. In the end, our family learned from Charlotte and our brother Bobby to never give up the fight. Life is an experience for all of us, and it is from experience that we learn and grow. We must make the most of what we have now and avoid living in the past or looking too far into the future. In the end, remember, no snapshot is better than the one we hold in our hearts!

Book Description
With an insight he often wished he had not inherited, Michael Forester, a far-from-ordinary rural Missouri teacher nearing retirement, faces danger head-on with a wry smile and never-say-die determination. He is a Kelly from a long line of feisty Irish ancestors who first homesteaded the rough Ozark valleys along Flat Creek just after the American Civil War. He is compelled by the sight, as his Irish forbearers termed it, to travel to the lakes in the north. There, he seeks answers regarding his waking dreams and his foreboding of terrible difficulties that soon will follow. A craftsman and woodworker with an envious zest for living, Michael unwinds from teaching by building sturdy touring kayaks. He has tested their sea worthiness and his own metal on solo trips in northern Minnesota and on Lake Superior for almost a decade. In those wild places where Mother Nature and organized crime are oddly poised to cast terrible troubles his way, passionate intrigues from the past surface. They reweave an already complex fabric of difficulties. Death looms for Michael Forester on the wave-tossed islands of Lake Superior and ultimately back home in the steep hill country of the Ozarks. He refuses to run from evil forces, the endgame, front and center. Michaels courage astounds his enemies but not his friends. Forester just is, and you want him by your side when the devil knocks at your door. All should know that good fortune sweet journeys is a long-standing Irish farewell of hope for the traveler. The proud beginnings of an Irish American familys odyssey are revealed in Good Fortune Sweet Journeys, are continued in Recapturing Lisdoonvarna, and set to rest in the final book of this three-part series, Saint Francis in the Garden.

Book Description
The Hybrid Diet is a radically different, practical and doable way to achieve a healthy weight and substantially reduce your risk of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and dementia. Recent research has shown that a diet that is very low in carbs and high in good fats is effective for weight loss, can counteract many diseases and also help athletic performance and endurance. The drawback is that it is difficult to stick to - because most people love carbs. But, as The Hybrid Diet demonstrates, we don't need to choose. The human body has been designed through millions of years of evolution to burn two different sources of fuel - glucose (which comes from the carbohydrates in fruit and vegetables) and ketones (which are made in the body from fat) - and to switch between them when food is scarce. The point of The Hybrid Diet is to show you how to make the best use of both options when you need them, and how best to switch between them. In their quest to discover the perfect diet, leading health journalist Jerome Burne and nutrition expert Patrick Holford have examined the latest cutting-edge science and have put together a plan that is sound, simple and delicious - one that is based on how your body works best.

Book Description
How Christian leaders adapted the governmental practices and political thought of their Muslim rulers in the Abbasid caliphate The Imam of the Christians examines how Christian leaders adopted and adapted the political practices and ideas of their Muslim rulers between 750 and 850 in the Abbasid caliphate in the Jazira (modern eastern Turkey and northern Syria). Focusing on the writings of Dionysius of Tel-Mahre, the patriarch of the Jacobite church, Philip Wood describes how this encounter produced an Islamicate Christianity that differed from the Christianities of Byzantium and western Europe in far more than just theology. In doing so, Wood opens a new window on the world of early Islam and Muslims’ interactions with other religious communities. Wood shows how Dionysius and other Christian clerics, by forging close ties with Muslim elites, were able to command greater power over their coreligionists, such as the right to issue canons regulating the lives of lay people, gather tithes, and use state troops to arrest opponents. In his writings, Dionysius advertises his ease in the courts of ʿAbd Allah ibn Tahir in Raqqa and the caliph al-Ma’mun in Baghdad, presenting himself as an effective advocate for the interests of his fellow Christians because of his knowledge of Arabic and his ability to redeploy Islamic ideas to his own advantage. Strikingly, Dionysius even claims that, like al-Ma’mun, he is an imam since he leads his people in prayer and rules them by popular consent. A wide-ranging examination of Middle Eastern Christian life during a critical period in the development of Islam, The Imam of the Christians is also a case study of the surprising workings of cultural and religious adaptation.

Book Description
This new English translation of the Faroe-Islander Saga (Faereyinga saga)--a great medieval Icelandic saga--tells the story of the first settlers on these wind-swept islands at the edge of the Scandinavian world. Written by an anonymous 13th-century Icelander, the saga centers on the enduring animosity between Sigmundur Brestirsson and Thrandur of Gota, rival chieftains whose bitter disagreements on the introduction of Christianity to the Faroe Islands set the stage for much violence and a feud which then unfolds over generations of their descendants. Making the saga accessible to a wider English readership, the translation is accompanied by a brief introduction, explanatory notes, genealogical and chronological tables, detailed maps and an excerpt from Jomsvikings' Saga which informs missing passages from the Faroe-Islander Saga manuscripts.
