Book Description
Excerpt from History of the First Baptist Church, 1825-1968 The history of the First Baptist Church of High Point, North Carolina, represents one hundred forty three years of existence, which we have divided into four periods. The members of this committee have searched diligently for accurate information; but due to the long span of time and missing records and facts, it has been impossible to include the names of all who served faithfully through the years. As we delved deeper and deeper, we became intrigued by the courage of the consecrated few who so Steadfastly supported the Baptist work, many times against opposition and at personal sacrifice. Book Description
Excerpt from The First One Hundred Years of Galeed Baptist Church, 1876-1976: Our Centennial Observance, August 27, 1976 As part of the observance of our One Hundredth Anniversary the church in con ference has given to the Centennial Committee the task of bringing the history of the church up to date. A History all past events considered together what a challenge! It was with fear and reverence that this committee began this work. A book of this length must exclude more people that it can include. Many of the truly great are unseen in these pages. No effort has been made to clothe leaders in saintly robes. Effort has been made to present them fairly in strength and in weakness and to show how God has used them in spite of their lack of perfection. We Would acknowledge with grateful appreciation those who organized our church and all who have been faithful to support and sustain Galeed during the past Century. We realize anew the trials, tribulations and dedication of our forefathers. We are strength ened by these trials and hardships. If time stands, God grant the people of our church in 2076 shall have cause to be as thankful for us as we are for those who served the past one hundred years. Book Description
Excerpt from Centennial Monograph Celebrating the First 100 Years of the Baptist Church at Chapel Hill This is not a history. Dr. A. C. Howell several years age wrote a brief history of the church, treating the period from 1854 to 1924. He was the first to mine the old minutes. Brief sketches had been written as early as 185 8 but no one before had attempted to put together a story of the ensuing years. This is a Centennial Monograph. We have gathered together some interesting facts about persons and events connected with the first one hundred years of the life of the Baptist Church at Chapel Hill and we have documented them. We have collected some photographs which were about to disappear and some which would be difficult to procure later on. We have included a bio graphical sketch of the last six pastors of the church with a brief word about each one's ministry, compressed from a longer account which each man prepared himself. We have compiled a 100-year Statistical Table of the church and Sunday School and a 40-year Statistical Table of the wmu. We have appended a Centennial Roster of Members. Persons now living are too close to the past 30 years to write a history of them. The fuller papers from which we have worked, a collection of annual reports, volumes of church bulletins, min utes of committee meetings and other source material covering recent years will be deposited in the church archives. When the proper time arrives and the proper historian appears these will be available. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Ross Baptist Church: The First Seventy-Five Years, 1800-1875; The People, the Community This history deals with a church that maintained a tough policy in its efforts to disci pline members of a disorderly society. The judicial proceedings of early Ross Church is documented in the old minutes. There are many names, accusations, charges, trials, and exclusions from membership. It was necessary to use names and charges in order to tell the story that began 200 years ago. The use of names is not an intention to embarrass any descendant living today. The old minutes of the Ross Meeting House were written in the grammatical structure of the old Middle English dialect that was used during the Colonial American Era. Ef forts have been made to retain some elements of the grammar without impairing read ability. We are very fortunate to have another friend, Don Highsmith, to advise and make suggestions in those efforts. It was Don that talked us into this lengthy project. We are still debating on whether to condemn, or thank him for the encouragement. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
