Book Description
This title was first published in 2002: Why do endogenous cycles persist in Spain? Manuel Roman demonstrates a highly novel approach to the study of finance and the persistence of endogenous growth cycles, providing a balanced account of the Post Keynesian, Classical and Neo-classical political economy approaches. Finding key propositions from a representative set of heterodox cycles' models, he rigorously tests their chief claims, grounding his research in empirical data. The endogenous forces behind persistent fluctuations in the Spanish economy are also identified and explored in this theoretically rich text, the first of its kind to examine the Spanish economy in such great detail.

Spain
Author: Joseph Harrison
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317051661
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 242
Book Description
Perhaps more than any other European country, Spain has undergone a remarkable transformation in the post-war period. To the surprise of many, it has succeeded in making the leap from a predominantly agricultural and politically repressed country, to a modern European democracy with a diversified economy containing important manufacturing and service sectors. Yet, despite the fact that at the beginning of the twenty-first century Spain is the world's eighth largest economy, old stereotypes that see the Iberian nation as an inflexible, unchanging society, persist. As such, scholars will welcome this new study which challenges the picaresque and outdated notions of Spanish economic development, replacing them with a picture of rapid and profound modernization. Building upon the recent work of historians and economists, the authors provide a thoughtful and compelling overview of the subject that clearly elucidates both the positive and negative aspects of modern Spanish development. Thus, as well as charting the undoubted successes achieved, persistent problems - most notably high unemployment - are also explored. Written in a straightforward and engaging manner, this book engages with research from a wide variety of disciplines, and will be of interest to anyone with a specific interest in modern Spain, or a wider interest in economic development within the framework of the European Union.

The Economics of Transformation
Author: Alfred Schipke
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642786154
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 346
Book Description
Janos Kornai The collapse of the socialist system in eastern Europe and the Soviet Union is one of the major events of this century, perhaps the most important of all. The transformation now taking place is without any precedent in history. The original development of capitalism was a process that lasted for centuries. The almost total liquidation of capitalism in the countries ruled by communist parties took place-in historical terms-in a very short period of time, but it was carried out by force and repressive methods. The transformation which has now begun is diverting these countries back onto the path of capitalist development and the hope is that the process will take place much faster than the original emergence of capitalism. And another hope can be expressed: that the governments of these countries will not resort during the process to the arsenal of political violence and repression in order to speed it up. Although the post -socialist transformation is a historically unique phenomenon, some components and features of it show a similarity with other processes or events that took place under other circumstances. Other empires before the Soviet empire collapsed. The political structures of other countries took the path from dictatorship to democracy. Under other conditions, state assets have been privatized, inflation has been curbed, foreign capital has flowed in, new oligopolies have formed, and so on. The uniqueness lies in the new, specific configuration of these component processes and may other phenomena.

Sociology of Organizations
Author: Antonio Lucas Marín
Publisher: Antonio Lucas Marín
ISBN:
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 400
Book Description
Organizations are one of the characteristic elements of more modern societies. The complexity of social life and the difficulty of intended social objetives require that individuals should join their fellow men to try to achieve them. It is not easy to understand ordinary life without making continuous references to organizations, which act as extensions of man to reach certain difficult goals. The study of organizations has been a significant part of the effort exerted by social sciences to rationallize social life in the Twentieth century; it can be predicted that it will be increasingly important. Factories, companies, and organizations have often been successive ways of organizing work from the beginning of industrialization up to our days. We are ever more aware of the importance of organizations in our lives. Sociology, which paid attention to the phenomenon of factories from the very beginning, has continued to be concerned about the study of organizations. We will see here some aspects of that study.
