Book Description
This is the third of three volumes, first published in 1906, which treat the Egyptian theology of the afterlife. The first volume contains the complete hieroglyphic text of the Book Åm-Țuat, with translations and reproductions of all the illustrations; the second, the hieroglyphic text of the short form of the Åm-Tuat and the Book of Gates. This volume explores the origin of the Books of the Other World, highlighting and comparing the most remarkable features, with prefatory remarks and a full index to the whole work. The object of all the Books of the Other World was to provide the dead with a ‘guide’ or ‘handbook,’ containing a description of the regions through which their souls would have to pass on their way to the Kingdom of Osiris, and which would supply them with the words of power and magical names necessary for an unimpeded journey from this world to the next.

Book Description
The Egyptian Heaven and Hell is a three-volume series, presented here in one convenient text, about the Egyptian underworld, or world of the dead. According to Egyptian mythology, the region of Tuat was where the people of this world went after death, and where the Sun God Ra traveled in his boat after dark. A description of this world was inscribed on the walls of tombs. Volume I of the series contains the complete hieroglyphic text and English translation of the Book Am-Tuat. Volume II contains the complete text and translation of Book of Gates, as well as the text and translation of the short form of Book Am-Tuat. Volume III contains information on the origin and contents of the Books of the Other World and a full index to Volumes I, II, and III. This comprehensive work is essential to students of Egyptian mythology and Wallis Budge. SIR ERNEST ALFRED THOMPSON WALLIS BUDGE (1857-1934) was born in Bodmin, Cornwall in the UK and discovered an interest in languages at a very early age. Budge spent all his free time learning and discovering Semitic languages, including Assyrian, Syriac, and Hebrew. Eventually, through a close contact, he was able to acquire a job working with Egyptian and Iraqi artifacts at the British Museum. Budge excavated and deciphered numerous cuneiform and hieroglyphic documents, contributing vastly to the museum's collection. Eventually, he became the Keeper of his department, specializing in Egyptology. Budge wrote many books during his lifetime, most specializing in Egyptian life, religion, and language.

THE present work is the outcome of two lectures on the Books of the Tuat, i.e., the Egyptian Underworld, or "Other World," which I had the honour to deliver at the Royal Institution in the spring of 1904, and it has been prepared at the suggestion of many who wished to continue their inquiries into the beliefs of the Egyptians concerning the abode of the departed, and the state of the blessed and the damned.

Book Description
"This is a three volume collection of texts and commentary about the Ancient Egyptian alternate reality called the Tuat. The Tuat was both the region that the boat of the Sun God Ra traversed during the night, and the place where inhabitants of this world went after death. A description of the Tuat, and its inhabitants and portals, was inscribed on the walls of the tombs of all social strata."
