Book Description
Compliance with the EU's Construction Products Directive is a reality for construction product manufacturers, as harmonised European Standards and European Technical Approval Guidelines come into full effect. Purchasers, specifiers and regulatory authorities expect to see products bearing the CE marking symbol and, in most European countries, marking is already compulsory. Many manufacturers are unclear about their obligations as regards this directive and need to be confident that they are receiving correct and unbiased advice about whether they need to obtain CE marking and if so, what they must do. This book offers a timely and thorough explanation of the directive and its application through harmonised European Standards and European Technical Approvals (ETAs). It leads the reader through the history and background of the CPD, explaining many of the fundamental principles and provisions, and then provides an in-depth explanation of all aspects of complying with the directive through its standards and ETAs, and the process of obtaining and using the CE marking. It goes on to look at other, related issues, such as where a product comes under more than one EU directive, what the manufacturer may expect once he has obtained the CE marking and is trying to sell his product throughout the European Union, and what is likely to happen in terms of market surveillance. The book presents each subject area logically and thoroughly and in a similar order as manufacturers will encounter them. However, some readers may prefer to concentrate only on those subjects which particularly interest them at any one time.

A Guide to Attestation of Conformity Under the Construction Products Directive
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781860810367
Category : Standardization
Languages : en
Pages : 8
Book Description
The Construction Products Directive, CPD, establishes provisions for a single European Market in construction products. It gives six broad essential requirements which the works must satisfy according to the regulations in each Member State. Products must enable any construction works in which they are incorporated to meet the Essential Requirements. As a New Approach Directive the CPD is supported by European technical specifications. Products which comply with the specifications will be eligible for CE marking and therefore to be placed legally on the market throughout the European Community. The Directive requires assessment of conformity of products as a basis for the attestation, or declaration, of conformity of the product with a European technical specification. This declaration enables a manufacturer to place the CE marking on the product. CE marking indicates a presumption of conformity only with health and safety requirements in the Member States: it should not be treated as a quality mark. This Digest describes the legal requirements of the Directive and explains the conformity assessment and attestation procedures. It outlines the implications for manufacturers, specifiers/users, regulators and assessment bodies, and the significance for Building Control, Trading Standards and (in Northern Ireland) Environmental Health Officers. It should be read in conjunction with Digest 397, which gives the background to the Directive and supporting European technical specifications.

Construction products directive
Author: Holger Lutz
Publisher:
ISBN: 9783433017319
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 87
Book Description
The term 2Construction Products Directive2 (CPD) for the 2Council Directive on the approximation of laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States relating to construction products (89/106/EEC)2 has become a familiar expression to authorities, those involved in standardization, contractors and designers and - last but not least - to manufacturers of construction products. At the time of adoption by the Council on 21 December 1988 it was the third directive of the so-called 2New Approach2 which provides that directives shall no longer include any technical details, but only the general objective and essential requirements to be satisfied by the items to be regulated. More directives were elaborated in close succession and older ones were amended in conformity with the new approach. Inconsistencies in references and use of terms led to the amending Council Directive 93/68/EEC of 22 July 1993. The changes were not only limited to modifications of terms, such as 2CE marking2 instead of 2EC mark2, but entire paragraphs were revised editorially. Hence, the trilingual version (German, English, French) of the Construction Products Directive already published by German associations was not up-to-date any longer. Since it has proved useful to have the current text of the directive in the three languages stated to hand when working with European standardization committees and committees for the drafting of guidelines for European technical approvals this new version was drafted. The three column layout which stood the test was retained to enable a quick comparison between the individual language versions. As before in the older editions the statements for entry into the minutes were reproduced, though they are not part of the directive, but the knowledge of their contents could in some cases support arguments in the committees. New in this version is the comparison as to the contents of the three language versions. Compilation of the to some extent considerable differences shall in the case of resulting problems contribute to understand the partner of another tongue.
