A Study of the Constrained Vapor Bubble Thermosyphon
Author: National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa
Publisher: Independently Published
ISBN: 9781724028174
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 28
Book Description
The objective of this effort is to better understand the physics of evaporation, condensation, and fluid flow as they affect the heat transfer processes in a constrained vapor bubble heat exchanger (CVBHX). This CVBHX consists of a small enclosed container with a square cross section (inside dimensions. 3 x 3 x 40 mm) partially filled with a liquid. The major portion of the liquid is in the corners, which act as arteries. When a temperature difference is applied to the ends of the CVBHX, evaporation occurs at the hot end and condensation at the cold end resulting in a very effective heat transfer device with great potential in space applications. Liquid is returned by capillary flow in the corners. A complete description of the system and the results obtained to date are given in the papers listed. Wayner, Peter C., Jr. and Plawsky, J. L. Glenn Research Center

Heat Transfer in Aerospace Applications
Author: Bengt Sundén
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128097612
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 274
Book Description
Heat Transfer in Aerospace Applications is the first book to provide an overall description of various heat transfer issues of relevance for aerospace applications. The book contains chapters relating to convection cooling, heat pipes, ablation, heat transfer at high velocity, low pressure and microgravity, aircraft heat exchangers, fuel cells, and cryogenic cooling systems. Chapters specific to low density heat transfer (4) and microgravity heat transfer (9) are newer subjects which have not been previously covered. The book takes a basic engineering approach by including correlations and examples that an engineer needs during the initial phases of vehicle design or to quickly analyze and solve a specific problem. Designed for mechanical, chemical, and aerospace engineers in research institutes, companies, and consulting firms, this book is an invaluable resource for the latest on aerospace heat transfer engineering and research. - Provides an overall description of heat transfer issues of relevance for aerospace applications - Discusses why thermal problems arise and introduces the various heat transfer modes - Helps solve the problem of selecting and calculating the cooling system, the heat exchanger, and heat protection - Features a collection of problems in which the methods presented in the book can be used to solve these problems

Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Capillary-Pumped Loop Heat Pipes
Author: National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa
Publisher: Independently Published
ISBN: 9781792707414

Languages : en
Pages : 34
Book Description
An experimental investigation of capillary-pumped loop (CPL) head pipes with single and multiple evaporators designed to develop and validate a computer model to predict the performance of CPL heat pipes over a wide range of conditions is discussed. The results of a literature search and review and a numerical study to determine the effects of geometric design parameters on the CPL heat pipe pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics are described. Vapor groove geometry and the use of circular versus rectangular evaporators were studied. Obot, N. T. NASA-CR-196408, NAS 1.26:196408 NAG5-2471...
