Book Description
The Coherence Effect describes how to tap into the laws of nature to improve health, higher brain functioning and well-being. With a Foreword by neuroscientist and physician Tony Nader, head of the international Transcendental Meditation (TM) organizations in over 100 countries, the book is the product of years of research and practice by a powerhouse team of authors. Dr. Robert Keith Wallace's postgraduate research at Harvard continued his pioneering research on the physiological effects of meditation. He is the author of several books on meditation and Ayurveda and one of the world's leading authorities on Vedic health practices.Dr. Christopher Clark followed his residency at Yale's Department of Psychiatry by pioneering the integration of Ayurvedic medicine into the practice of medicine and psychiatry; he is the author of Ayurvedic Healing-Contemporary Maharishi AyurVeda Medicine and Science. Jay B. Marcus has been a teacher of meditation for 45 years and He has lectured extensively on drug abuse, prison reform, and meditation. He is the author of TM and Business. The authors begin taking readers on a health and healing journey with an understanding of one of the most famous laws of nature, the Second Law of Thermodynamics. It says that anything that is not alive increases in entropy (disorder or decay) over time. Cars and houses fall apart, computers break down, food becomes rotten. The same natural tendency towards entropy affects the human body. But living organisms have the ability to grow and evolve and overcome the decaying effect of the Second Law at least for a time. And how we do this tells us what life is according to science and what we need for optimal health. A prime lesson of The Coherence Effect is how to eat for complete digestion and what to eat to overcome particular disorders and entropy in general. We know our immune and other self-repair systems naturally enable us to maintain inner order as the antidote to entropy and disease. When functioning properly, our immune system keeps germs out of the body and destroys those that enter; we naturally manufacture chemicals each day to heal wounds, aid sleep, improve digestion, and control bodily functions. When working properly, the body's self-healing systems do a thousand-fold more to maintain normal, orderly functioning than any pharmaceuticals could possibly do. And the book compares meditation programs based on science and the laws of nature. So, those not satisfied with their meditation experience can decide if they want to try the TM technique, which generates brain coherence to overcome entropy. Health and life itself depend on maintaining inner order or coherence, and the book shows how we can enhance our naturally coherent state for lifelong health even in a stressful and infectious world.

Book Description
Every business leader faces innumerable challenges every working day, each one taking their toll on precious energy levels and the ability to respond and react positively in a commercial environment. Coherence recognizes the key factors that take their toll on a leader's effectiveness and ability to lead, and provides the reader with unique solutions designed to improve physiological factors that impact on core competencies. Problems today cannot be solved with yesterday's level of thinking. CEOs fail and leaders burn out because our thinking has not sped up or powered up. The author not only recognizes that leaders have the potential for limitless processing power, but shows them how to access it, taking them back to fundamentals and, quite literally, to the heart of who we are and how we function successfully. By showing leaders how to be 'younger, smarter, healthier and happier' Coherence gives every decision maker the power to make influential decisions under pressure and achieve sustainable success at every level.

Book Description
As climate change continues to dominate the international environmental agenda, phenology – the study of the timing of recurring biological events – has received increasing research attention, leading to an emerging consensus that phenology can be viewed as an ‘early warning system’ for climate change impact. A multidisciplinary science involving many branches of ecology, geography and remote sensing, phenology to date has lacked a coherent methodological text. This new synthesis, including contributions from many of the world’s leading phenologists, therefore fills a critical gap in the current biological literature. Providing critiques of current methods, as well as detailing novel and emerging methodologies, the book, with its extensive suite of references, provides readers with an understanding of both the theoretical basis and the potential applications required to adopt and adapt new analytical and design methods. An invaluable source book for researchers and students in ecology and climate change science, the book also provides a useful reference for practitioners in a range of sectors, including human health, fisheries, forestry, agriculture and natural resource management.

Book Description
Superconductivity: Physics and Applications brings together major developments that have occurred within the field over the past twenty years. Taking a truly modern approach to the subject the authors provide an interesting and accessible introduction. Brings a fresh approach to the physics of superconductivity based both on the well established and convergent picture for most low-Tc superconductors, provided by the BCS theory at the microscopic level, and London and Ginzburg-Landau theories at the phenomenological level, as well as on experiences gathered in high-Tc research in recent years. Includes end of chapter problems and numerous relevant examples Features brief interviews with key researchers in the field A prominent feature of the book is the use of SI units throughout, in contrast to many of the current textbooks on the subject which tend to use cgs units and are considered to be outdated

Book Description
This invaluable book presents most of the important papers of Emil Wolf, published over half-a-century. It covers chiefly diffraction theory (especially the analysis of the focal region), the theory of direct and inverse scattering, phase-space methods in quantum mechanics, the foundation of radiometry, phase conjugation and coherence theory. Several papers which have become classics of the optical literature are included, such as those on Wolf's rigorous formulation of the theory of partial coherence and partial polarization, the introduction of diffraction tomography, and his discovery of correlation-induced shifts of spectral lines (often called the Wolf effect). There are also papers dealing with the historical development of optics and some review articles.

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date description of the Josephson effect, a topic of never-ending interest in both fundamental and applied physics. In this volume, world-renowned experts present the unique aspects of the physics of the Josephson effect, resulting from the use of new materials, of hybrid architectures and from the possibility of realizing nanoscale junctions. These new experimental capabilities lead to systems where novel coherent phenomena and transport processes emerge. All this is of great relevance and impact, especially when combined with the didactic approach of the book. The reader will benefit from a general and modern view of coherent phenomena in weakly-coupled superconductors on a macroscopic scale. Topics that have been only recently discussed in specialized papers and in short reviews are described here for the first time and organized in a general framework. An important section of the book is also devoted to applications, with focus on long-term, future applications. In addition to a significant number of illustrations, the book includes numerous tables for comparative studies on technical aspects.

Book Description
In 1989 the time was hot to create a workshop series dedicated to the dicussion of the latest results in the automatic processing of fringe patterns. This idea was promoted by the insight that automatic and high precision phase measurement techniques will play a key role in all future industrial applications of optical metrology. However, such a workshop must take place in a dynamic environment. The- fore the main topics of the previous events were always adapted to the most interesting subjects of the new period. In 1993 new prin- ples of optical shape measurement, setup calibration, phase unwr- ping and nondestructive testing were the focus of discussion, while in 1997 new approaches in multi-sensor metrology, active measu- ment strategies and hybrid processing technologies played a central role. 2001, the first meeting in the 21st century, was dedicated to - tical methods for micromeasurements, hybrid measurement te- nologies and new sensor solutions for industrial inspection. The fifth workshop takes place in Stuttgart, the capital of the state of Baden- Württemberg and the centre of a region with a long and remarkable tradition in engineering. Thus after Berlin 1989, Bremen 1993, 1997 and 2001, Stuttgart is the third Fringe city where international - perts will meet each other to share new ideas and concepts in optical metrology. This volume contains the papers presented during FRINGE 2005.
