Book Description
Excerpt from The Blue Germ I fell forwards, making a clutch at the table cloth. My forehead struck the corner of the fender and the last thing I remembered was a crash of falling crockery. Then all became darkness. My parlour-maid found me lying face downwards on the hearth-rug ten minutes later. My cat was Sitting near my head, blinking contentedly at the fire. A little blood was oozing from a wound above my left eye. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Book Description
Excerpt from The Story of Germ Life The rapid progress of discovery in the last few years has created a very general interest in bacteria. Few people who read could be found today who have not some little idea of these organisms and their relation to disease. It is, however, unfortunately a fact that it is only their relation to disease which has been impressed upon the public. The very word bacteria, or microbe, conveys to most people an idea of evil. The last few years have above all things emphasized the importance of these organisms in many relations entirely independent of disease, but this side of the subject has not yet attracted very general attention, nor does it yet appeal to the reader with any special force. It is the purpose of the following pages to give a brief outline of our knowledge of bacteria and their importance in the world, including not only their well-known agency in causing disease, but their even greater importance as agents in other natural phenomena. It is hoped that the result may be to show that these organisms are to be regarded not primarily in the light of enemies, but as friends, and thus to correct some of the very general but erroneous ideas concerning their relation to our life. Book Description
Excerpt from The Quest of the Germ: With Observations Thereanent The artist has depicted in the frontispiece the difficulty one meets in endeavoring to introduce a new idea to the world. I have had, experience in such endeavors. In 1901 I published a small volume entitled 'religion and Authority. In my book I defined Authority to be, The attributive quality which enables its possessors to command the Obeyance of those sub ject to them and to enforce their mandates. To the philoso phie mind authority is nothing more, nothing less than the idea conveyed by those few words, and yet the world persists in its acceptation of its erroneous concept of the nature of authority and will so persist for several generations to come.
