Current published works on the battle have been incomplete, vague and sketchy. This paper will attempt to describe in detail the events leading to and the actual battle for the terrain feature that survivors simply called, 'The Hill'. This report is based on Technical Reports--Combat Operations After Action Reports from the participating units and personal interviews with veterans of the battle. Questions concerning leadership are addressed concerning the conduct of the battle and conclusions drawn. For the benefit of future leaders lessons learned and recommendations are made for consideration.

In the spring of 1972, North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam in what became known as the Easter Offensive. Almost all of the American forces had already withdrawn from Vietnam except for a small group of American advisers to the South Vietnamese armed forces.
