Book Description
Tom Sandcrane must navigate the narrow path between his Cheyenne heritage and the white man’s world For generations, the Sandcrane men have served their tribe as the keepers of the Sacred Arrows. When the time comes for Seth Sandcrane to pass the responsibility on to his son Tom, he waits with pride for his son to assume his place among the elders of the tribe. But Tom wants nothing to do with Sacred Arrows, ancient traditions, and the mystical heritage of the Cheyenne. It is 1896; the nation is growing, and Tom wants a place in the white man’s world. He takes a job in the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a go-between for the government and the Cheyenne. When bureaucratic treachery forces Tom to become an outlaw, he must flee the land of his birth. As America teeters on the brink of the Spanish-American War, Tom Sandcrane will learn to fight—not with sacred arrows, but with a Colt .38.

Book Description
George Amos Dorsey was an U.S. ethnographer of Indigenous peoples of the Americas, with a special focus on Caddoan and Siouan tribes. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Denison University in 1888, then a second Bachelor's Degree in anthropology in 1890 at Harvard university, and finally PhD in 1894, the first PhD in anthropology from Harvard, and the second ever awarded in the United States. The following account of the Cheyenne social organisation was obtained as part of Dorsey's studies of the Cheyenne Sun-Dance, which, in turn, are part of a comparative study on this ceremony among the Plains Tribes he began in 1901. The Cheyenne Sun-Dance forms the subject of Part II. The accounts of the societies, the myths of the origin of the same, and the story of the medicine-arrows are given, with but slight changes, as they were obtained through Richard Davis, a full blood Cheyenne.

Book Description
Exiled from his people, a Cheyenne fighter searches for a war The party of young Cheyenne warriors is returning home from a successful hunt when their leader, Panther Burn, spies a wayward Creek scout. Hungry for the prestige of battle, he chases the Creek into the woods, dragging his fellow warriors straight into an ambush. Two die, and for his impulsiveness, Panther Burn is banished from the tribe. But his legend does not end there. He takes shelter with the Southern Cheyenne, and finds that their attempts at modernization amount to an abandonment of tradition and enslavement to the white man. Over the next decades, the United States will try to herd the Cheyenne into reservations and destroy their way of life, and Panther Burn will become their champion. Although his battle with the Creek ended in disgrace, this warrior will find glory at last.

Book Description
Torn apart by betrayal, two brothers search for each other on the Western plains While their family’s wagon train stops for a rest, Jacob Milam goes hunting with his younger brother, Tom. They are hoping for a rabbit, a deer, or even a buffalo, but they haven’t managed to catch anything bigger than a rattlesnake when they see the Indian raiding party galloping over the plains. Jacob races back to camp, desperate to warn his parents, but it is already too late. Betrayed by their Indian guide, the settlers have been slaughtered. Jacob and Tom are the only survivors. When the Indian guide kidnaps Tom to raise him as a warrior, Jacob is left to wander the plains. Rescued by a shaman, he is initiated into the mystical rites of the Blackfeet people. As they come of age in an unfamiliar land, Jacob and Tom are finally reunited in an unlikely place: the killing fields of the Old West.
