This collection documents the work of the Faculty Senate from 1966 until 1990. The minutes of the Faculty Senate, 1969 to 1990, make up the core of this collection. The minutes and reports of the Faculty Senate Steering Committee, 1967-1969, also are included in this collection. Other materials, 1966-1980, include annual reports of the Senate presidents, cabinet minutes, constitutions and bylaws, correspondence, memoranda, minutes and reports of various committees and subcommittees, reports, and Senate rosters. There are scattered minutes and other materials dealing with the Commission on Faculty Affairs, Commission on Research and Graduate Studies, Commission on Student Affairs, Commission on Undergraduate Studies, Student Government Association, and University Council.

Series I contains correspondence, minutes, memoranda, annual committee reports, and studies generated by the Faculty Senate's committees. Two of the major committees represented in this series are the Executive and the Faculty Economic Welfare Committee. The latter examined issues pertaining to faculty salaries and benefits. The Reports to the Senate outline meeting agendas and memoranda and reports from committees. Series IV contains informational materials and memoranda regarding the presentation of the OSU Distinguished Service Awards. Nomination packets of the winners of the Distinguished Service Award and other awards (containing curriculum vitas and letters of recommendation) are also in this series. The studies, opinion papers, and addresses were prepared for the Faculty Senate by faculty members, committees, and outside consultants. Series VI contains general correspondence, memoranda, and informational reports relating to the administrative structure, policies, and history of the Faculty Senate. The microfilm records date from 1944 to 1971 and consist primarily of correspondence, minutes, committee and curriculum council reports, informational materials, and memoranda. The minutes, informational material, and reports dating from 1944 were created by the Committee on Faculty Organization, an ad hoc committee formed by the University to establish the Faculty Senate. The microfilm also contains correspondence, memoranda, and reports from the Committee On Committees and the Publication Advisory Committee. Series numbers in brackets on the inventory correspond to series indicators in the microfilm.

In 1880, forty-three women walked into the president's office at the University of Kentucky (UK) and signed the student register, becoming the first female students at a public college in the commonwealth. But gaining admittance was only the beginning. For the next sixty-five years—encompassing two world wars, an economic depression, and the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment—generations of women at UK claimed and reclaimed their right to an equitable university experience. Drawing on yearbooks, photographs, and other private collections, Our Rightful Place: A History of Women at the University of Kentucky, 1880–1945 examines the struggle for gender equity in higher education through the lens of one major institution. In the face of shifting resistance, pioneering women constructed opportunities for themselves. Terry L. Birdwhistell and Deirdre A. Scaggs highlight three women—Sarah Blanding, Frances Jewell McVey, and Sarah Bennett Holmes—who fought for access to basic facilities that were denied to UK women for decades, including housing and study spaces.
