Book Description
Ethereal Empirical is merely a conversation or, indeed, an explanation of all things pertaining to the sensory perceptions that takes place between Haven the Herald Angel and the once fallen angel Ruen, beyond the throne of God, in giving a testimony of that which the angel Ruen, who is seeking to be revalidated upon his pending account, is potentially awaiting to be redeemed and transformed back to his former self after his death sentence and defeat in being excommunicated and exiled from the physical realms and origins of the heavens.

Book Description
This study questions the widely held perception that books, as an artistic medium, are superior to and more respectable than film or television, sometimes considered frivolous and pernicious. Criticism of both the big and small screens often obscures their signal accomplishments and the entertainment and insight they provide. The author analyzes our distaste for these media--and the romanticizing of the printed word that accompanies it--and argues that books and films are in fact quite complementary. A broad survey of film and TV offerings explores what enacted narratives have taught us about the nature of childhood.

Book Description
With the sudden and immature death of the Author, this work, which was planned to comprise 2I volumes has had to end with the I8th. From a number of students and art critics requests have reached the publisher and myself that an index should be made of the volumes which have been published. Herein their desire has been satisfied. This general index is divided into two parts: one for names of places, so that with the greatest ease and without loss of time the student can find all the Italian paintings from early Christian times up to the end of the Quattrocento, which are scattered throughout the churches, galleries and private collections of Europe and America. For the larger towns the material is divided into the following headings: I Churches and Monasteries. II Public Collections. III Public Buildings and Streets. IV Private Collections. and this order, though not indicated, has always been followed for the smaller localities. The second division contains the names of artists, each one accom panied by dates and where possible an indication of the site of his activity. The chief aim of this index is to make it easier to consult the enormous amount of material treated in the I8 volumes. For the traveller who desires to know what paintings are to be found in any town this index should be a valuable vade-mecum.

Book Description
Focusing on three celebrated northern European still life painters?Jan Brueghel, Daniel Seghers, and Jan Davidsz. de Heem?this book examines the emergence of the first garland painting in 1607-1608, and its subsequent transformation into a widely collected type of devotional image, curiosity, and decorative form. The first sustained study of the garland paintings, the book uses contextual and formal analysis to achieve two goals. One, it demonstrates how and why the paintings flourished in a number of contexts, ranging from an ecclesiastical center in Milan, to a Jesuit chapter house and private collections in Antwerp, to the Habsburg court in Vienna. Two, the book shows that when viewed over the course of the century, the images produced by Brueghel, Seghers and de Heem share important similarities, including an interest in self-referentiality and the exploration of pictorial form and materials. Using a range of evidence (inventories, period response, the paintings themselves), Susan Merriam shows how the pictures reconfigured the terms in which the devotional image was understood, and asked the viewer to consider in new ways how pictures are made and experienced.

Book Description
This book undertakes a study of the trope of possessed child in literature and film. It argues that the possessed child is fundamentally an American phenomenon which, first, may be traced to the Calvinist bias of the US as a nation founded on Puritanism and, second, to the rise of Catholicism in that country, to which Puritanism owes its origins.
