He married Sarah Adeline Head (1829-1895), daughter of Philemon Head and Rebecca Pratt, 29 February 1848. They had five children, one of whom was Virgil Dean Ezell (1860-1920). William fought in the Civil War and died at Spotsylvania Courthouse in 1864. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee and Maryland.
