Analysis of Natural Gas and Illuminating Gas by Fractional Distillation at Low Temperatures and Pressures (Classic Reprint)
Author: G. A. Burrell
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780483088481
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 44
Book Description
Excerpt from Analysis of Natural Gas and Illuminating Gas by Fractional Distillation at Low Temperatures and Pressures This publication, which is one of a series dealing with the increase of efficiency in the production and utilization of fuels, describes in detail the results of experiments, made by the Bureau of Mines, with a method of separating and determining the hydrocarbons in gaseous fuels. The method employs fractional distillation. In a vacuum at low temperatures. The gas is liquefied, the different constituents separated by proper adjustment of temperatures, the various fractions removed with a -mercury pump, and these frac tions analyzed by ordinary slow-combustion methods. The method was successfully applied to the separation of hydrocarbons in natural gas and in artificial illuminating gas, and is the only known method applicable to the separation of some hydrocarbons.
