Book Description
An Anthology of Modern War Poetry and Prose written by contributors (veterans, veterans families, and supporters) to the International War Veterans Poetry Archives (IWVPA). This book is dedicated to the Men and Women of the Armed Forces of the Free World who have been, are now, and will be placed in harm's way. For many of those who find it difficult to come to terms with personal war experiences, whether it is first hand or as a loved one or friend, writing is almost like a magical pill. Within the structured framework of the written word, emotions can be haltered and led to a point where the writer is enabled to manifest and relate to the gamut of emotions engendered by the experiences and consequences of war.

Book Description
Excerpt from A Soldier's Son The war was over - the cruel, cruel war; and Father and Uncle Howard were on their way home. Children's voices, in every key Of joy and thanksgiving, sang the happy news from morning to night. The white, strained look faded from Mother's face, and she became her Old, bright self again. Now that they were over, the Children tried to forget how long and sad and weary the days had been during which the Sight Of the post bag, and the morning newspaper, almost took everyone's breath away, until the columns of War news had been hastily scanned before taking letters and papers to Mother's room. Then came the day when Uncle Howard's name was amongst the seriously wounded, and there was a brief account Of how he had saved the guns, and then returning into the firing line to pick up a wounded soldier, had himself been dangerously wounded. The children thought of Uncle Howard's delicate young motherless boy, and sobbed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
This book is an expanded, larger-format, and more highly illustrated version of a smaller book released by CEU Press in 2011. It presents and comments on an extensive set of religious and personal photographs and illustrations that depict people along with divine beings or absent loved ones. First, Christian examines the periodic appearances of Christ-like strangers in the Spanish countryside through the vision of a woman in La Mancha in 1931. Then he considers the long history of images with liquids on them not only for early modern Spain, but also in the United States, Italy and France in the 1940s and 1950s. The third and most extensive chapter addresses the iconography of illustrated depictions of divine and spirit beings in conjunction with humans and how its conventions were incorporated into commercial postcards and personal photographs, culminating in photo montages of families and their absent soldiers in World War I. The fourth theme is new to this edition. It compares the electric moments in Spanish communities when people ritually come into physical contact with saints and with animals, or transform themselves into saints or animals for ritual purposes. Over 50 of the color photographs by Spain's preeminent documentary photographer, Cristina GarcĂa Rodero, are included.

Book Description
Back home in Pennsylvania, his young widow and three small children survived him. Too young to have lasting recollections, Ben W. McClelland, the soldier's son who was just beyond infancy, became one of the war's fatherless innocents for whom the memories of others would form the paternal image. As the boy evolved into manhood, he reflected on how strange it was to grow up without this parent. In this narrative, a work of analysis as well as an odyssey into family heritage, the son undertakes a compelling search to find this man he could not remember. Through sentiment and nostalgia he depicts the innocence of childhood and recalls the many people who furnished impressions of his father. Old photographs, intimate letters, and interviews with the memory keepers and the storytellers in his extended family were resources from which the author recreated a time and a place and a person. This reconstruction resurrects a father vital in life and passion, a man chronicled in humorous family tales, realized among vivid small-town characters, and seen against the contrast of social changes of the1960s.
