Book Description
This book explores how monetary policy contributes to the efficient allocation of resources, with special reference made to the contribution of the effective workings of the financial system. It argues that the stability of the financial system promotes the smooth functioning of the payment systems and the effective transmission of monetary policy, thus promoting the achievement of monetary policy objectives. The interrelated issues addressed here include the ways various monetary policy objectives are achieved, their effective presentation to the public, and the strategic role of money growth in the conduct of monetary policy. The analysis underlines the context of financial-market performance in recent decades and the varied central bank responses to the emergence of the global financial crisis. This book constitutes a useful companion to graduate students in economics, researchers and business and central banking practitioners in understanding the unending quest of the shifting roles of money and financial practices to reconcile growth and stability.

Book Description
A Fast Company best book of the yearA Washington Post bestsellerWinner of the 2017 Axiom Business Book Award in Business Technology How do you tell a real trend from the merely trendy? How, for example, will a technology--like artificial intelligence, machine learning, self-driving cars, biohacking, bots, and the Internet of Things--affect us, our businesses, and workplaces? How will it eventually change the way we live, work, play, and think--and how should we prepare for it now? In The Signals Are Talking, noted futurist Amy Webb shows us how to analyze the "true signals"--those patterns that will coalesce into a trend with the potential to change everything-and land on the right side of disruption. The future, Webb shows, isn't something that happens to us passively. Using a proven, tested methodology, she enables us to see ahead and forecast what's to come--challenging us to create our own preferred futures.

Book Description
Monetary Policy in Interdependent Economies provides the first comprehensive overview of the implications of using game theory to analyze interactions among national monetary policymakers. It synthesizes the pessimistic view of sovereign policymaking that results from the analysis of one-shot games with the optimistic view derived from the analysis of quid pro quo strategies in repeated games. Good outcomes, the authors conclude, require coordination among noncooperative policymakers, and that sometimes policymakers, must be forced to cooperate. They suggest two roles for supranational institutions such as the International Monetary Fund: the IMF can provide a forum where noncooperative policymakers, can work to achieve good outcomes, and it can police agreements among cooperative policymakers Canzoneri and Henderson take clear stands on controversial issues and make recent advances in game theory accessible by using a single unified framework to explain a wide range of concepts. They begin by analyzing one-shot interactions between two policymakers, In subsequent chapters they extend their analysis to allow for more policymakers, and coalitions, for repeated interactions among policymakers, and for the possibility of time inconsistency. Matthew B. Canzoneri is Professor of Economics at Georgetown University. Dale W. Henderson is Assistant Director, Division of International Finance, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
