Pinky
Author: Wesley Hall
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 0595343201
Category : Sailors
Languages : en
Pages : 392
Book Description
Pinky, A Memoir of WWII, is the first of four volumes about a young man who couldn't wait to join the U. S. Navy and go to the Pacific. In this volume T. J. Thiggens is sixteen when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. He agrees with his mother to complete the school year 1942-1943 if she will sign his enlistment papers. He goes through boot camp at Farragut, Idaho, and is transferred to Shoemaker, California, to await orders to ship overseas. On his eighteenth birthday he boards the SS Eugene Skinner for the South Pacific; and after 23 days he arrived in New Caledonia. There he attends a Fleet Radio School, works for a time at the COMSOPAC Service Squadron; and, after almost a year on this island, he finally gets a transfer to a wooden subchaser, which is headed north into the War Zone. There are five subchasers in Noumea Harbor being converted to LCC's (landing craft, communications); and because they each have a Walt Disney cartoon character painted on their bridges, they are nicknamed "MacArthur's Donald Duck Navy". This part of the story about five wooden subchasers ends just as T. J. becomes the 'second' radio on the USS SC-995.

Book Description
It was about as hard as hard could ever be growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina, especially for colored people. Obidella Johnson hated the word colored. She had to admit that it was better than being called Nigra. Her family had it better than most folks. Her mama was a pastry chef at La Fountain Bleu and made good money, which would have been fine if their daddy, a preacher, hadnt run away with the head of the usher board and their mother hadnt turned to drink to ease her pain. Obidella was thankful that her mama didnt drink during the day. She waited until she got off from work before touching a drop. It fell on Obidella to care for her little brother and sister and keep the house clean. She was also thankful that her mamas boss, Mr. Dave Mills, the richest white man in North Carolina, was in love with her mama and looked the other way. Obidella prayed every day that God would send her daddy back home to take care of them. But God said no. He had other plans for the Johnson familyparticularly Obidella.

Pinky Promise
Author: J. D. Blackrose
Publisher: Bell Bridge Books
ISBN: 1610262522
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 295
Book Description
I'm Becs, and I'm a Summoner. I can call Powers—fae, demons and the like—to the mortal plane. Does this always go the way I want? No. No, it does not. It's caused a lot of complications. Just ask anyone who knows me. Fortunately, I've got a host of friends, a gorgeous boyfriend, a magic shop, and an over-eager magic wand with an itch for dark witches. What I don't have is my dearest friend, Pinky, because the six-foot-tall fairy returned to the Fae Lands after he sacrificed his magic to help capture a dangerous djinn. I'm battered and bruised but I made a solemn vow—a literal pinky promise—to find a way to restore my friend's magic, and I am determined to do it—even if it means facing the terrifying Queen of All Faerie, Queen Titania herself. But that's not my only problem. The djinn magic infected the tether between Earth and Faerie. If the bindings's not restored, it could mean the end of both worlds. No pressure. Every time I think I've got things sorted out, something else happens, and the laws of unintended consequences follow me like a dog looking for a bone. Speaking of which, King Oberon just dropped off a huge Irish Wolfhound puppy, and I haven't the faintest idea what to feed her. It's going to take more than a little magic to pull this off. Praise for The Summoner's Mark Series: "If you enjoy urban fantasy then do yourself a huge favor and add this author to your must-read list."—Marta Cox, Goodreads Reviewer "This whole series has a wonderful combination of snark, heart, and mystery."—Carrie, Goodreads Reviewer "Great urban fantasy, wonderful writing, intriguing characters (love Pinky!), and an enthralling plot. Highly recommend."—Penny, Goodreads Reviewer About the author: Pinky Promise is the sixth installment in J. D. Blackrose's The Summoner's Mark Series after Demon Kissed, Fae Crossed, Hell Bound, Samhain's Bargain and Wish Magic. Previously, she's published The Soul Wars, The Devil's Been Busy, and the Zombie Cosmetologist novellas through Falstaff Books. She's also published multiple short stories, including "Welcome, Death," in the award-winning Jewish Book of Horror.
