The principle of Similitude, first enunciated by Sir Isaac Newton, and proved last century by French mathematicians, M. Reech and others, will be found deduced mathematically by rear-admiral D. W. Taylor, in his Speed and Power of Ships, the book which contains the well-known and widely used curves of residuary resistance per ton of displacement. The corresponding speeds for Similar ships are Speeds pro portional to the square roots of their linear dimensions.
