Book Description
Precast concrete piles are frequently spliced together for deep installations. Current FDOT requirements for pile splices specify post-installed reinforcement located around the perimeter of the pile and installed in deeply drilled holes using structural adhesives. The relatively short cure times of structural adhesives have led to constructability problems, since the multiple and deeply drilled holes around the perimeter of the pile require a significant amount of time for introduction of the structural adhesive into the holes. The result is that the adhesives in many of the holes cure prior to the installation of the new piles. Consequently, an alternative splice method not subject to the short cure time of structural adhesives was needed to address these construction problems. Phase 1 included an investigation into potential alternatives for precast pile splices, the design of a pile splice for a 30 inch square precast prestressed concrete pile containing a cylindrical void using steel pipe and grout (for tension, compression, flexure, and shear), and field installation guidelines for this type of splice. This phase also resulted in the conceptual design of laboratory testing apparatuses for both tension loading and for flexural loading. Phase 2 dealt with full-scale field testing of the splice. The researchers provide the results of the field testing, along with recommended construction and installations guidelines.

Book Description
"This volume contains 101 papers presented at the 8th International Conference on the Application of Stress Wave Theory to Piles, held in Lisbon, Portugal in 2008." "It is divided in 14 chapters according to the conference themes: Wave mechanics applied to pile engineering; Relationship between static resistance to driving and long-term static soil resistance; Case histories involving measurementand analysis of stress waves; Dynamic monitoring of driven piles; Dynamic soil-pile interaction models - numerical and physical modeling; High-strain dynamic test; Low-strain dynamic test; Rapid-load test; Monitoring and analysis of vibratory driven piles; Correlation of dynamic and static load tests; Quality assurance of deep foundations using dynamic methods; Incorporation of dynamic testing into design codes and testing standards; Ground vibrations induced by pile motions; Dynamic measurements in ground field testing." "This conference aims to contribute to a better and more efficient professional interaction between specialized contractors, designers and academicians. By joining the contribution of all of them it was possible to elucidate the today's state-of-the-art in science, technology and practice in the application of stress wave theory to piles."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Description
This is a concise, systematic and complete treatment of the design and construction of pile foundations. Discusses pile behavior under various loadings and types of piles and their installation, including consideration of soil parameters. It provides step-by-step design procedures for piles subject to vertical loading and pullout, lateral, inclined and eccentric loads, or dynamic loads, and for piles in permafrost. Also describes load test procedures and their interpretation and buckling of long, slender piles with and without supported length. The closing chapter presents case histories of prediction and performance of piles and pile groups. Includes numerous solved problems.

Book Description
This technical report covers all aspects of the uses of precast concrete piles - design, manufacture, transport, handling, pitching and driving. Both reinforced and prestressed concrete piles are dealt with and attention is paid to the use of both plan piles and those with enlarged toes. Although the report is a translation of parts of a set of three volumes prodduced in the Netherlands, those parts reproduced are internationally applicable. Special sections deal with the effects of pile driving on adjacent buildings and theor occupants - both as regards vibration and noise.

Book Description
This project involved the design and field testing of a splice for square precast prestressed concrete piles containing a cylindrical void. The pile splice incorporates a steel pipe grouted into the cylindrical void. Part 2 of the report deals with field testing the splice and contains the results of the field testing along with recommended construction and installations guidelines. Part 1 contains the design of the pile splice for tension, compression, flexure, and shear.
