Book Description
Excerpt from Skeletal Remains From Santa Barbara, California, Vol. 1: Craniology In general the state of preservation is very good. Except that of A, which, as already mentioned, consists of a number of fragments, and D which represents a skull cap or calotte only. The external compacta of all the parts belonging to B is so little impaired that it retains its glossy appearance. The same is true of D and partly of E. In the latter and in C the compacta is less smooth and is slightly injured in places by the chemical action of the soil and perhaps by root erosion, without, however, being scaly or calcined. Minor defects in the skulls are mentioned in connection with the parts affected in the detailed list'below. Book Description
The core subject matter of bioarchaeology is the lives of past peoples, interpreted anthropologically. Human remains, contextualized archaeologically and historically, form the unit of study. Integrative and frequently inter-disciplinary, bioarchaeology draws methods and theoretical perspectives from across the sciences and the humanities. Bioarchaeology: The Contextual Study of Human Remains focuses upon the contemporary practice of bioarchaeology in North American contexts, its accomplishments and challenges. Appendixes, a glossary and 150 page bibliography make the volume extremely useful for research and teaching.
