William Nash Moore was born near Cote San Dessein in 1831 and lived all his life in the area. He was seventy-two years old in 1903 when Earle Hodges, editor of the Mokane Herald-Post, asked him to write down his memories of the people and places of South Callaway. His articles were published in every issue of the weekly newspaper for several months. More was writing from memory and may have never seen some of these names in print. He spelled names the way he thought they should be. He was a man with strong opinions and didn't hestitate[sic] to say what he thought of his neighbors. Col. Jefferson Franklin Jones (1817-1879), son of Thomas G. Jones and Rececca Buxton Snedicor, was born in Montgomery Co., Ky., and died in Callaway Co., Missori. He was married to Sally Ann Jameson (1828-1888) in 1844 in Callaway County. She was born in Fulton, Callaway Co., to Samuel Jameson and Malinda Harris. They were parents of sixteen children. Descendants live in Alabama, Missouri, Ohio, New York and elsewhere. The earliest Jones ancestor, Mosias Jones (d. bef. 1728), died in New Kent Co., Va. and married ca. 1719 Lucy Foster (1697-1750) of New Kent Co., Virginia.
