Book Description
In the 70’s Shizuto Masunaga Sensei, creator of Keiraku shiatsu (meridian shiatsu), delivered four-week correspondence courses providing students with his own purpose-written material. We saw these course books during a visit to the Iokai Shiatsu Centre in Tokyo and given their valuable content decided to translate and publish them. Other than their historical interest, we believe the four volumes (this is the second) will be extremely helpful to shiatsu students, practitioners and teachers alike. The extensive topics covered in the four manuals range from the history of shiatsu, the Japanese legislature on the subject, how to execute pressure and the rules to follow, basic techniques, exercises for he alth, shiatsu as first aid, clinical shiatsu, shiatsu for children and aesthetics.

Book Description
In the 70s, Shizuto Masunaga Sensei, a great master and the creator of Keiraku shiatsu (meridian shiatsu) conducted four-month correspondence courses. He sent his students the four manuals he had written to purpose. Given their valuable content, we decided to translate them from Japanese, believing them to be of great help to students, practitioners, and teachers of shiatsu alike. This fourth and last volume illustrates clinical shiatsu, examining a series of common “ailments” and recommending the most appropriate meridian treatment, from the illustration of the symptoms to “how to assess” and “how to cure”. Each section is supported by figures giving the meridian pathways. The final week also considers shiatsu for children and beauty. The concepts are accessible to everyone and are useful for we as practitioners and for the recipients we practice on. Shizuto Masunaga was truly a master, and his words always have something to teach us.

Book Description
Thai Massage is the touch that enhances health, happiness, and wholeness--and with more than 150 expertly demonstrated sequences unfolding on these pages, everyone can enjoy its benefits. Sometimes called "yoga in action," Thai massage has worked its relaxing wonders for more than 1,000 years. Explore its secrets with a detailed program that includes ten complete lessons, each concentrating on a particular part of the body. Like other forms of massage, it employs a flowing sequence of stretches, but instead of using only your fingers, pressure is applied with the thumbs, palms, elbows, knees, and feet. Full-color photographs of every move match still shots with superimposed artwork that indicate the direction of the movements. Each technique is clearly explained and its benefits--from improved flexibility to increased vitality--detailed. "All of the techniques are shown in sharp color photographs that are pleasing to the eye. Descriptions of the techniques are clear."--Massage Therapy Journal.

Book Description
Japanese shiatsu massage entails putting pressure on certain places all over the body. The Japanese word "shiatsu" means "finger pressure" in English. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the theoretical foundation of this massage method. It centers on the idea of qi (or Chi), the life force energy that is thought to circulate throughout the body via channels called meridians. Rhythmic pressure is applied to different areas along the body's meridians by use of fingers, thumbs, palms, and occasionally elbows or knees during a Shiatsu massage. The objective is to encourage a state of harmony and health by enhancing the flow of Qi. The client stays completely clothed while the shiatsu practitioner works on them on a futon or mat laid out on the floor. To alleviate stress and promote better energy flow throughout the body, Shiatsu practitioners may use finger pressure, stretches, and joint rotations, among other techniques. As a holistic method, it helps with issues including pain, stress, tension, and imbalances in the body. It's important to remember that Shiatsu is its own type of bodywork with its own specific methods and approaches, often including parts of Western medicine's anatomy and physiology, even though it has certain similarities with traditional Chinese medicine. It is recommended that you discuss any health issues with a licensed professional before undergoing a Shiatsu session, as is the case with any type of massage or bodywork.
