Book Description
In a world becoming increasingly devoid of absolute truths, women seek balance in performing their multiple roles. Proverbs 31:10 31 defines a woman's roles as the princess daughter of the King of Kings, as a wife, mother, businesswoman, mentor, servant, and homemaker. As our economy fluctuates and life tugs us in opposite directions, this definition may often leave women feeling overwhelmed and utterly inadequate! Author Kathi Woodall takes a step-by-step approach to show us how to deal with "pendulum issues" issues where we strive for direction between opposite perspectives. If left to nature, however, gravity would pull the pendulum to rest between opposing extremes, in much the way that finding balance would help us delight in performing the roles to which God calls us. Seven Roles, One Woman offers a five-week study guide to help women discover their unique roles in the family, the church, the community, and the world. Geared to women of all ages, the relaxed, conversational tone encourages individual study time, while guiding group discussions at the end of every fifth lesson. In five short weeks, Woodall addresses complex pendulum issues that show us how to become chayil Hebrew for noble or virtuous women. And as we understand the significance of the value God places on each of us, we become true women of valor.

Book Description
What light does the experience of educated, employed women throw upon the recent demographic and economic changes in West Africa? This monograph takes as its starting-point the case histories of 60 Ghanaian women, both migrants and non-migrants, from two ethnic groups and areas of the country but with similar educational backgrounds and work histories. Letting the women speak for themselves, the authors examine the impact of education, modern formal sector employment and migration upon their familial roles and relationships. The women's lives are placed in the context of Ghana and its people,

Book Description
Much of the history of women, in religion as in other fields, is lost because it was overlooked or considered unimportant. It is therefore surprising that so many fragments of women's stories survive in the New Testament texts composed by men. Why did they include so many references to women and why are women, as a group, treated so positively by the male New Testament writers? Women in the New Testament shows how the stories of women are an integral part of the Gospel and its meaning for us. It also relays how we can respond to the challenge these women represent, whether we are men trying to understand or women trying to find our voices within the tradition of faith found in the New Testament. Chapter one discusses three women of expectant faith. Chapters two and three deal with women who are changed by Jesus. Chapter four focuses on New Testament women of influence. Chapters five and six show how women disciples spread and gave shape to the gospel message. Chapters are "Women of Expectant Faith," “Women Changed by Jesus,” “More Women Changed by Jesus,” “Women of Prominence,” “Women and Discipleship,” and “More Women and Discipleship.” Mary Ann Getty-Sullivan, PhD, teaches at St. Vincent College and St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, Pennsylvania. She is the author of First and Second Corinthians from the Collegeville Bible Commentary series, author of the God Speaks to Us series of children's books, and editor of the Zacchaeus Studies: New Testament series published by The Liturgical Press. Book Description
In Seven Men, New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas presents seven exquisitely crafted short portraits of widely known—but not well understood—Christian men, each of whom uniquely showcases a commitment to live by certain virtues in the truth of the gospel. Written in a beautiful and engaging style, Seven Men addresses what it means (or should mean) to be a man today, at a time when media and popular culture present images of masculinity that are not the picture presented in Scripture and historic civil life. This book answers questions like: What does it take to be a true exemplar as a father, brother, husband, leader, coach, counselor, change agent, and wise man? What does it mean to stand for honesty, courage, and charity? And how can you stand especially at times when the culture and the world run counter to those values? Each of the seven biographies represents the life of a man who experienced the struggles and challenges to be strong in the face of forces and circumstances that would have destroyed the resolve of lesser men. Each of the seven men profiled—George Washington, William Wilberforce, Eric Liddell, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jackie Robinson, John Paul II, and Charles Colson—call the reader to a more elevated walk and lifestyle, one that embodies the gospel in the world around us.

Book Description
Sarah. Hagar. Rebekah. Leah. Rachel. Bilhah. Zilpah. These are the Matriarchs of Genesis. A people's self-understanding is fashioned on their heroes and heroines. Sarah, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel--the traditional four Matriarchs--are important and powerful people in the book of Genesis. Each woman plays her part in her generation. She interacts with and advises her husband, seeking to achieve both present and future successes for her family. These women act decisively at crucial points; through their actions and words, their family dynamics change irrevocably. Unlike their husbands, we know little of their unspoken thoughts or actions. What the text in Genesis does share shows that these women are perceptive and judicious, often seeing the grand scheme with clarity. While their stories are told in Genesis, in the post-biblical world of the Pseudepigrapha, their stories are retold in new ways. The rabbis also speak of these women, and contemporary scholars and feminists continue to explore the Matriarchs in Genesis and later literature. Using extensive quotations, we present these women through five lenses: the Bible, Early Extra-Biblical Literature, Rabbinic Literature, Contemporary Scholarship, and Feminist Thought. In addition, we consider Hagar, Abraham's second wife and the mother of Ishmael, as well as Bilhah and Zilpah, Jacob's third and fourth wives.
