Book Description
Presents information from the primary abiotic forces defining the system, and from the present hydrology, biogeochemistry and physics of major sites of organic carbon production of the McMurdo Dry Valleys. Additionally, research on the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the dry valley soils is included. The role of environmental management in long-term ecological studies is also addressed. The accompanying CDROM provides details and scale to visualize the McMurdo Dry Valleys from an ecosystem perspective.

Book Description
Consequences of Maritime Critical Infrastructures Accidents presents a probabilistic general model of critical infrastructure accident consequences. This include three models of the process of the events generated by a critical infrastructure accident, the process of the environment threats and the process of environment degradation. This is all created and adopted to the maritime transport critical infrastructure, with a focus on shipping networks applied to accident consequences modeling. Consequences of Maritime Critical Infrastructures Accidents is devoted to the assessment methods of consequences of environmental damages, with application to ship accidents. It is a new approach that has never been proposed and applied before and includes methods of modeling, identification, prediction and optimization to allow the reader to better understand the effects of these accidents on our oceans. Moreover, the general procedures and the new strategy presented in the book aim to lower environment losses concerned with chemical releases caused by an accident of ship critical infrastructure network operating within the Baltic Sea or world sea waters. - Provides a complete approach to accident consequences modeling, identification, prediction and optimization - Presents the theoretical background, which can be applied practically to maritime critical infrastructure accident consequences analysis - Includes a general model for critical infrastructure accident consequences which is globally applicable and with wide applications in various industrial sectors

Book Description
Welcome to Real Analysis is designed for use in an introductory undergraduate course in real analysis. Much of the development is in the setting of the general metric space. The book makes substantial use not only of the real line and $n$-dimensional Euclidean space, but also sequence and function spaces. Proving and extending results from single-variable calculus provides motivation throughout. The more abstract ideas come to life in meaningful and accessible applications. For example, the contraction mapping principle is used to prove an existence and uniqueness theorem for solutions of ordinary differential equations and the existence of certain fractals; the continuity of the integration operator on the space of continuous functions on a compact interval paves the way for some results about power series. The exposition is exceedingly clear and well-motivated. There are a wide variety of exercises and many pedagogical innovations. For example, each chapter includes Reading Questions so that students can check their understanding. In addition to the standard material in a first real analysis course, the book contains two concluding chapters on dynamical systems and fractals as an illustration of the power of the theory developed.
