Book Description
The anticommunist crusade of the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not start with the Cold War. Based on research in the early files of the FBI's predecessor, the Bureau of Investigation, the author describes how the federal security officials played a decisive role in bringing about the first anticommunist hysteria in the US, the Red Scare in 1919 to 1920. The Bureau's political role, it is argued, originated in the attempt by the modern federal state during the early decades of the 20th century to regulate and control any organised opposition to the political, economic and social order.

Book Description
Red Scare was first published in 1955. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. Few periods in American history have been so dramatic, so fraught with mystery, or so bristling with fear and hysteria as were the days of the great Red Scare that followed World War I. For sheer excitement, it would be difficult to find a more absorbing tale than the one told here. The famous Palmer raids of that era are still remembered as one of the most fantastic miscarriages of justice ever perpetrated upon the nation. The violent labor strife still makes those who lived through it shudder as they recall the Seattle general strike and Boston police strike, the great coal and steel strikes, and the bomb plots, shootings, and riots that accompanied these conflicts. But, exciting as the story may be, it has far greater significance than merely that of a lively tale. For, just as American was swept by a wave of unreasoning fear and was swayed by sensational propaganda in those days, so are we being tormented by similar tensions in the present climate of the cold war. The objective analysis of the great Red Scare which Mr. Murray provides should go a long way toward helping us to avert some of the tragic consequences that the nation suffered a generation ago before hysteria and fear had finally run their course. The author traces the roots of the phenomenon, relates the outstanding events of the Scare, and evaluates the significant effects of the hysteria upon subsequent American life.

Book Description
Autobiography: About the artist/writer, Paula S. Smith (Ida Mae Asbury): graduated from Miami University in August, the same day as her parents celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary. In Lazarus' Advertising Department in Columbus, Ohio, she progressed from Assistant Production Manager to Retoucher, to Home Artist, to Fashion Artist, to a Supervisor: Layout Artist - Finish Artist. Her freelance business, Collage, began in 1977. She received a Masters in Art Education in 1984 and began teaching art from 1986 at Princeton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, for the next 21 years. Theater arts membership from 1986 included Black Cultural Productions (television), Oxford Community Theater, Hamilton Civic Theater, and Footlighters when she danced and sang. In 1990 she returned to Oxford to live with her mother, Sarah, and returned to her home church, Bethel AME. She enjoyed drawing and singing jazz, rock and roll, country music, and writing. In 1990 (+3 more years) Paula was chosen by her students for Who's Who Among American Teachers. Honors in 2006 included National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers and in 2010-11 Cambridge Who's Who recognized her as an executive, professional, and entrepreneur of that year and an honored member the next. Her business, Collage, is still functioning; the art in stock includes black and white prints, full-color watercolor prints, original drawings, paintings (acrylic and watercolor), landscapes, and Third World subject matter. Miss Smith believes that in all life and art, whether in subject matter or media, there can be joy in the "doing" and the partnership of discovery. Book synopsis: Gripe Night is the story of how my father and mother developed and implemented the fair hearing of family disputes. How these affected different family members is included within the booklet. I hope that families will enjoy this small window into the life of the author and can use this as a small piece building peace within family life.

Book Description
This book covers the transition of individuals with mild and moderate disabilities to all aspects of adult life. The text includes not only the transition to employment, but also the transition to future living and post-secondary educational environments. Transition Education and Services for Adolescents with Disabilities builds upon the success of past editions, but it also presents a new and fresh look at the areas of transition education and transition services. Two separate models are proposed, one to cover transition education and the other to provide an overview of transition services. The separate but equal emphasis on each model component will help readers see their own roles more clearly. This book is intended for use by those in pre-service education programs as well as those currently in the field.
