Handbook of Offshore Helicopter Transport Safety
Author: Michael J. Taber
Publisher: Woodhead Publishing
ISBN: 1782421882
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 240
Book Description
Handbook of Offshore Helicopter Transport Safety: Essentials of Underwater Egress and Survival provides a comprehensive look at the issues and concerns facing offshore helicopter transport. The book offers guidance for offshore helicopter operators, survival instructors, and the global offshore workforce, including discussions of safety management systems, safety briefings, survival equipment, underwater egress training, water impact/ditching statistics, and search and rescue. Each area of interest details pertinent information spanning approximately 30 years of offshore operations. Early sections discuss helicopter transport safety, safety regulations, and standards, while subsequent chapters cover Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) programs and their development and training, followed by final chapters on the effects of HUET, Emergency Breathing Systems (EBS), and Helicopter Transportation Suit (HTS). - Presents Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET), requirements for physical fidelity, contextual interference, and retention of skills - Details the current understanding of breath-holding and cardiac response in cold environments - Discusses stress, executive functioning, and performance in extreme situations - Covers current standards of emergency breathing systems and next to skin clothing following egress from a ditched helicopter in cold water - Includes the most up-to-date water impact/ditching statistics with a focus on human tolerances and survivability

FAA Vertical Flight Bibliography, 1962-2001
Author: Robert David Smith
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Government publications
Languages : en
Pages : 300
Book Description
This bibliography has been assembled as an aid to those who are interested in research, engineering, and development pertaining to vertical flight aircraft (including helicopters, tiltrotor, and tiltwing vehicles) and their integration into the National Airspace System (NAS). The intended audience includes people within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in industry, and in state and local governments Reports in this bibliography are documents specifically related, in whole or in pan to vertical flight aircraft and the infrastructure that supports their operation in the National Airspace System (NAS). These documents have generally been sponsored or authored by the research, engineering, and development elements of the FAA. This is the eighth and probably the last version of this bibliography. It addresses approximately 440 reports published from 1962 to 2001.

Current Aeromedical Issues in Rotary Wing Operations
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aeron
Languages : en
Pages : 364
Book Description
Given its characteristics and the complexity of its use and its environment, the helicopter is exposed to damage and a whole series of measures can be previewed to alientate this risk. The presentations concentrated on five main topics: 1. Crew training; 2. The different conditions of use; 3. The psycho-physiological component; 4. Survival equipment and methods; and 5. Accidents and their prevention. A careful reading of the papers presented at the symposium will enable both specialists and decision-makers to make a summary assessment of the constraints of the missions on the one hand, and on the other, of the new methods of protection and training and the new technologies which will enable aircrew to carry out their missions in a safer environment. In addition, they will perhaps discover that helicopter operation can be optimised by a series of different devices and above all by judicious matching of "type of helicopter-type of aircrew training-type of additional on-board equipment".
