PONSON DU TERRAIL'S COMPLETE ROCAMBOLE SAGA IN NEW, UNABRIDGED ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS ROCAMBOLE 3 – ADVENTURES OF ROCAMBOLE (Les Exploits de Rocambole) From this series, Rocambole takes front stage to become the main character. Rocambole, on his way back from England, steals the identity of a young man who is due to marry a Spanish noblewoman and set himself up for life. Nothing is going to stop him in his pursuit: from the Spanish plains to the snowy steppes of Russia, many people will lose their lives before Rocam-bole’s plot is finally thwarted by his arch-enemies. This is perhaps the most gruesome series in the whole saga! This volume includes new unabridged English translations of the original French texts: “Les Exploits de Rocambole - Tome I - Une fille d’Espagne” “Les Exploits de Rocambole - Tome II – La Mort du Sauvage” “Les Exploits de Rocambole - Tome III – La Revanche de Baccarat” Text translation and layout, artwork, introductory notes, author’s biography, synopses and chronology: © 2023 Roland Radaelli and IP Rights Ltd THE COMPLETE SAGA IN NEW UNABRIDGED ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS The Rocambole Saga The Rocambole adventures were first published in instalments in various French feuilletons, as supplements to newspapers. This was an extremely popular format in 19th Century France as well as in other countries. Novels such as Dumas’ “The Count of Montecristo”, Sue’s “The Mysteries of Paris” and Feval’s “Le Bossu” (“The Hunchback”) were first published in instalments and later reprinted as books. From 1857 to 1870, the year before the author’s death, Ponson du Terrail wrote thousands of pages chronicling Rocambole’s adventures, first as a master criminal, then as a defender of justice. The novels also offer an eye-opening account on how society was structured in 19th century France with stark divisions between nobility, rich businessmen and the working classes. Far from being outdated, these novels feel as fresh today as when they were written over 150 years ago. About the Author Pierre Alexis Ponson du Terrail was born in France in 1829. From 1850 he started writing serials for several newspapers and in 20 years will write over 200 novels! In 1857 he created the character of Rocambole, which will go on to achieve great success all over the world. The word “rocambolesque” is still used nowadays in many languages to describe fantastic, incredible adventures and scheming plots. With Germany’s invasion of France in 1870, Ponson du Terrail joins the resistance but a sudden illness strikes him and he dies in January 1871. The ROCAMBOLE SAGA in our catalogue includes the following ebooks: Series 1 - Legacy of Blood Series 2 - Knaves of Hearts Series 3 - Adventures of Rocambole Series 4 - Rocambole's Redemption Series 5 - Rocambole's Resurrection Series 6 - Rocambole's Last Word Series 7 - Rocambole in London Series 8 - Rocambole in Prison Series 9 - Rocambole and the Hangman's Rope

Book Description
Ridge, Sardelle, and their comrades may have rescued Tolemek’s sister and freed the dragon, but trouble awaits at home. The king is missing, a secret organization is hunting sorcerers, and the capital is more vulnerable than ever to enemy attack. Worst of all, at least from Ridge's point of view, someone put that jackass Colonel Therrik in charge of the flier battalion. Ridge and his allies have a lot of problems to fix, but they can’t show their faces in the capital without being arrested or shot. This time, it’s going to take a lot more than magic to save the country. The Blade’s Memory is the fifth installment in the Dragon Blood series.

Book Description
First English edition of a classic Verne novel. Jules Verne, celebrated French author of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in 80 Days, wrote over 60 novels collected in the popular series "Voyages Extraordinaires." A handful of these have never been translated into English, including Invasion of the Sea, written in 1904 when large-scale canal digging was very much a part of the political, economic, and military strategy of the world's imperial powers. Instead of linking two seas, as existing canals (the Suez and the Panama) did, Verne proposed a canal that would create a sea in the heart of the Sahara Desert. The story raises a host of concerns — environmental, cultural, and political. The proposed sea threatens the nomadic way of life of those Islamic tribes living on the site, and they declare war. The ensuing struggle is finally resolved only by a cataclysmic natural event. This Wesleyan edition features notes, appendices and an introduction by Verne scholar Arthur B. Evans, as well as reproductions of the illustrations from the original French edition.

Book Description
In 1863 Jules Verne, famed author of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Journey to the Center of the Earth, wrote a novel that his literary agent deemed too far fetched to be published. More than one hundred years later, his great-grandson found the handwritten, never-before published manuscript in a safe. That manuscript was Paris in the Twentieth Century, and astonishingly prophetic view into the future by one of the most renowned science fiction writers of our time. . . . Praise for Paris in the Twentieth Century “Jules Verne was the Michael Crichton of the 19th century.”—The New York Times “For anyone interested in the history of speculative fiction . . . this book is an absolute necessity.”—Ray Bradbury “Verne's Paris is a bustling, overcrowded metropolis teeming with starving homeless and ‘vehicles that passed on paved roads and moved without horses.’ Years before they would be invented, Verne has imagined elevators and faxmachines. It was a vision Verne's editor flatly rejected. Contemporary readers know better.”—People “An excellent extrapolation, founded on 19th-century technical novelties, of a future culture.”—The Washington Post Book World “Verne published nearly seventy books, many of them now considered classics. But this little jewel catches him just reaching stride as a writer of science fiction, a genre that he, of course, helped put on the literary map.”—The Denver Post
