Book Description
In investigation on "Response of sweet corn hybrid to varying plant densities and nitrogen levels" Plant density of 80,000 ha-1 gave maximum green cob yield of 14,159 kg ha-1, where as 1,00,000 ha-1 produced higher green fodder yield of 18,532 kg ha-1. The results revealed that sweet corn hybrid with plant density of 80,000 ha-1 along with the application of 240 kg N ha-1 in clay loam soils at low available status of nitrogen at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad gave higher green cob yield, net return and B: C ratio during 'kharif' season.

Book Description
The experiments was conducted at the Central Experiment Sation at UPLB from November 1983 to Febrary 1984 to evaluate the yield, quality and other agronomic characteristics of Thai DMR Super Sweet corn when grown at different levels and plant density, and harvested at various stages of maturity. A split-plot design was used with two nitrogen levels as main plots, two planting densities as subplots and four harvest dates as sub-sub plots. Each treatment was replicated three times. The results showed that increasing the nitrogen rate from 100 to 200 kg N/ha significantly increase yield of marketable e green corn. Mowever, days to silking, barreness, percentage lodged plants, plant height, ear length and diameter, weight of individual ears, number of marketable ears and total yield were not affected. Increasing the plant population from 53,333 to 88,932 plants/ha increased barreness, lodged plants, desirable green ears and total yield. However, stalk diameter, ear length and weight of marketable ears were decreased. Quality of sweet corn as scored was not significantly affected by rate of nitrogen applied and plant population density. These quality parameters appeared to be more dependent on stage of maturity when the corn ear is harvested for market. Though, ear diameter, weight of individual ear, yeild of marketable green ear and total green ear yield increased as maturity advances, tenderness ans sweerness declined markedly. Higher yield and better quality of procedure can be obtained from Thai DMR Super (...).

Book Description
Maize is one of the versatile emerging crops with wider adaptability under varied agro-climatic conditions. Globally, maize is known as queen of cereals because it has the highest genetic yield potential among the cereals. It is cultivated on nearly 150 m/ha in about 160 countries having wider diversity of soil, climate, biodiversity and management practices that contributes 36 % (782 m/t) in the global grain production. The United States of America (USA) is the largest producer of maize contributes nearly 35 % of the total production in the world. It is the driver of the US economy. This book talks about the improvement, production, protection and post harvest technology of the maize crop. Note: T& F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Book Description
The response of sweet corn Zea mays L. var. rugosa (cultivar 'Jubilee') to row spacing, nitrogen and population density at two planting dates was studied in a field experiment at the OSU Vegetable Research Farm in 1984. Variables included two row spacings, 75 cm and 90 cm, three nitrogen rates, 150, 200, 250 kg/ha, and seven plant population densities, 49,400; 55,575; 61,750; 67,925; 74,100; 80,275 and 86,450 plants/ha. Population density showed a greater effect on yield (unhusked total and husked good), number of ears/plant, stalk diameter, ear weight, ear length, usable ear length, ear diameter and tipfilling of ears than did nitrogen rates and row spacing. Effects of row spacings and nitrogen rates were generally not significant. Total unhusked yield and yield of husked good ears increased 16 to 20% for the early planting and 22 to 24% for the late planting as plant density increased from 49,400 to 86,450 plants/ha. Ear weight of the first ear decreased 10% in the early planting and about 15% in the late planting as plant density increased from the lowest to the highest. Although characteristics of second ears were affected by plant population density, their contribution was only 3-16% of the total yield. Longer ears and higher ear weights were associated with the lower plant densities. Stalk diameter was reduced, plants were taller, and average number of ears per plant was reduced at higher densities. No significant interactions between the variables studied in the experiment were observed on any of yield or plant and ear characteristics measured.
