Book Description
Our uncertain times are hard enough for adults to navigate. For all too many young people—even many who appear to possess good coping skills—the challenges may seem overwhelming. More and more, resilience stands as an integral component in prevention programs geared to children and adolescents, whether at risk or not. Resilience Interventions for Youth in Diverse Populations details successful programs used with children and teens in a wide range of circumstances and conditions, both clinical and non-clinical. New strength-based models clarify the core aspects of resilience and translate them into positive social, health, educational, and emotional outcomes. Program descriptions and case examples cover diverse groups from homeless preschoolers to transgender youth to children with autism spectrum disorders, while interventions are carried out in settings as varied as the classroom and the clinic, the parent group and the playground. This unique collection of studies moves the field toward more consistent and developmentally appropriate application of the science of resilience building. Among the empirically supported programs featured: Promoting resilience in the foster care system. Developing social competence through a resilience model. Building resilience in young children the Sesame Street way. School-based intervention for resilience in ADHD. Girls Leading Outward: promoting resilience in at-risk middle school girls. Resiliency in youth who have been exposed to violence. Resilience Interventions for Youth in Diverse Populations is an essential resource for researchers, professionals/practitioners, and graduate students in clinical child and school psychology, social work, educational psychology, child and adolescent psychiatry, developmental psychology, and pediatrics.

Book Description
The third edition of this handbook addresses not only the concept of resilience in children who overcome adversity, but it also explores the development of children not considered at risk addressing recent challenges as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The new edition reviews the scientific literature that supports findings that stress-hardiness and resilience in all children leads to happier and healthier lives as well as improved functionality across the lifespan. In this edition, expert contributors examine resilience in relation to environmental stressors as phenomena in child and adolescent disorders and as a means toward positive adaptation into adulthood. The significantly expanded third edition includes new and significantly revised chapters that explore strategies for developing resilience in families, clinical practice, and educational settings as well as its nurturance in caregivers and teachers. Key areas of coverage include: Exploration of the four waves of resilience research. Resilience in gene-environment transactions. Resilience in boys and girls. Resilience in family processes. Asset building as an essential component of intervention. Assessment of social and emotional competencies related to resilience. Building resilience through school bullying prevention. Resilience in positive youth development. Enhancing resilience through effective thinking. The Handbook of Resilience in Children, Third Edition, is an essential reference for researchers, clinicians and allied practitioners, and graduate students across such interrelated disciplines as child and school psychology, social work, public health as well as developmental psychology, special and general education, child and adolescent psychiatry, family studies, and pediatrics.

Submitted Assignment from the year 2019 in the subject Sociology - Children and Youth, grade: 76.00, University of Malta (Department of Youth Studies), course: B.A. (Hons) Social Wellbeing, language: English, abstract: Life is full of transitions; one of which is the transition between childhood to becoming a young adult. Not everyone experiences this transition in the same manner, yet the majority of young people refer to it as being a rather challenging period in their lives due to several changes that occur. For this reason, it is crucial that young people are equipped with the essential tools and skills so as to persevere, what is referred to as resilience. There are mainly three factors that impact adolescent resiliency, being psychological; behavioural and socio-cultural factors. In this assignment all of these factors are discussed with reference to adolescence as a life stage and the development of resiliency.

Book Description
Resilence refes to the individual's ability to cope from stressors and adversities of life. With all the issues that a typical adolescent faces each day, it is important to know how resilience contributes to living a more productive life. The need to research on the protective factors of the indidual was one of the main motives of the construction of the Resilience Scale for Adolescents. The RSA has two major subscales: the internal and External Protective Factors. the former was divided into 5 dimensions: good problem-solving skill, good sense of humor, self-discipline, high self-esteem and optisism. the second subscale was composed of the individual. the 210-item preliminary from subjected to reliability testing, achieving satisfactory a values of 0.92, 0.94 and 0.96 for Internal and External Protective factors, and Total Resilience score, respectively. Validity testing was also done at 0.01 level of significance, with obtained t- values of 29.9, 32.3 and 29.8 for Internal and External Protective Factors, and total resilience score, in that order. through item analysis, the number of items decreased from 210 to 68, requiring the psychometic properties be assessed again. the final form was also considered as reliable, with obtained a values of 0.92, 0.91 and 0.95 for internal and External Protective Factors, and total Resilience score, respectively. it is considered as valid, with obtained t-values of 36.8 37.5 and 35.9 for Internal and External Protective Factors, and Total Resilience score, in that order. Making use of the results of the respondents in the final run, norms were established. Average scores of the RSA are from these ranges: 113 to 119 for Internal Protective Factors, 115 to 120 for External Protective Factors and 227 to 238 for Total Resilience score . A score lower than these ranges is a hint of being less-resilience than rest of thhe population. A score higher than these ranges indicates that the person is more flexible in dealing with adversities.
