HADOTI
Author: Dr. Sushma Ahuja / ???. ????? ?????
Publisher: Notion Press
ISBN:
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 545
Book Description
Architecture as an Art from the world of spirit !! The Religious background of Indian Art & Architecture is well known. This represents the broad cultural view of Hindu life through Temple Art & Architecture. Art as the expression of spiritual values in terms of beauty is the result of some intense experience which the artist tries to communicate to spectator. The recognition of something greater than man and an attempt to express things which are unseen and eternal, something from the world of spirit. The spirit of Indian art not only serves, pleases the eyes of beholder but also fulfils fortune and protection of evil. A merely textual treatment of the subject or one based on the study of the monument can not give the full results, both need to be co-related and in India we can not draw a clear line of demarcation between science and philosophy so manuals and monuments both should receive the full attention. However, Hadoti is rich in Art and Architecture, many great temples were constructed during Ancient and Medival period. This book is an Honest attempt to present the valuable heritage and tradition of Hadoti.

Indian Antiquary
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : English periodicals
Languages : en
Pages : 486
Book Description
"At a time when each Society had its own medium of propogation of its researches ... in the form of Transactions, Proceedings, Journals, etc., a need was strongly felt for bringing out a journal devoted exclusively to the study and advancement of Indian culture in all its aspects. [This] encouraged Jas Burgess to launch the 'Indian antiquary' in 1872. The scope ... was in his own words 'as wide as possible' incorporating manners and customs, arts, mythology, feasts, festivals and rites, antiquities and the history of India ... Another laudable aim was to present the readers abstracts of the most recent researches of scholars in India and the West ... 'Indian antiquary' also dealt with local legends, folklore, proverbs, etc. In short 'Indian antiquary' was ... entirely devoted to the study of MAN - the Indian - in all spheres ..."--Introduction to facsimile volumes, published 1985

Urban Histories of Rajasthan
Author: Elizabeth M. Thelen
Publisher: Gingko Library
ISBN: 1909942677
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 242
Book Description
An exploration of religious conflicts in premodern urban India. Diverse peoples intermingled in the streets and markets of premodern Indian cities. This book considers how these diverse residents lived together and negotiated their differences. Which differences mattered, when and to whom? How did state actions and policies affect urban society and the lives of various communities? How and why did conflict occur in urban spaces? Through these questions, this book explores the histories of urban communities in the three cities of Ajmer, Nagaur, and Pushkar in Rajasthan, between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. The focus of this study is on everyday life, contextualizing religious practices and conflicts by considering patterns of patronage and broader conflict patterns within society. The book examines various archival documents, from family and institutional records to state registers, and uses these documents to demonstrate the complex and sometimes contradictory ways religion intersected with politics, economics, and society. The author shows how many patronage patterns and processes persisted in altered forms, and how the robustness of these structures contributed to the resilience of urban spaces and society in precolonial Rajasthan.
