Book Description
This publication provides guidelines for the implementation of quality assurance and control programs concerning the combined medical diagnostic modality of positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT). These independent, but complementary, imaging techniques are in frequent and increasing use within the fields of diagnostic imaging, oncology, cardiology and neurology, where they allow physicians to locate and diagnose malignant diseases accurately. This publication establishes guidelines for acceptance testing and routine quality control as necessary for optimal clinical performance. Specific topics of discussion include frameworks for reference values, tolerances and action levels, minimal required configurations with corresponding performances characteristics, and the management of ancillary equipment.

Book Description
The PET and PET/CT Study Guide presents a comprehensive review of nuclear medicine principles and concepts necessary for passing PET specialty board examinations. The practice questions and content are similar to those found on the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) exam, allowing test takers to maximize their chances of success. The book is organized by test sections of increasing difficulty, with over 650 multiple-choice questions covering all areas of positron emission tomography, including radiation safety; radionuclides; instrumentation and quality control; patient care; and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Detailed answers and explanations to the practice questions follow. Supplementary appendices include common formulas, numbers, and abbreviations, along with a glossary of terms for easy access by readers. The PET and PET/CT Study Guide is a valuable reference for nuclear medicine technologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and all other imaging professionals in need of a concise review of the basics of PET and PET/CT imaging.

Book Description
Few advances in medicine have had more of an impact on modern health care than the invention of PET-CT studies of FDG in the living human body and experimental animals. Biochemistry has been superimposed on anatomy, which is a giant leap forward. The expertise required for the interpretation of CT must now be combined with the expert interpretation of the biochemical information of the FDG study. The idea that the interpretation of the images simply requires the superimposition of the two image modalities is simple is clearly not true. What is needed is a clear und- standing of the sites of metabolic activity revealed by FDG studies in normal persons, and its variability from person to person. For example, FDG accumulates in various structures in the head and neck, and in the ovaries and uterus of normal women during certain phases of the menstrual cycle. The case method of teaching has stood the test of time for more than a hundred years and is still valid as new modalities are developed and introduced into medical practice. The authors, both of whom have considerable experience in the performance and interpretation of PET-CT studies with FDG, have made an important contri- tion that will be of great value to nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, oncologists, and other physicians with the responsibility of caring for patients with cancer. Capabilities and limitations are discussed in the context of speci?c problems and patients.

Book Description
Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), as any other imaging modality, is acceptable for routine clinical and research applications only if technical pitfalls can be avoided. Artefacts from incorrect or sub-optimal acquisition procedures should be recognized and, if possible, corrected retrospectively and the resulting image information interpreted correctly, which entails an appreciation of variants of the represented image information. This publication provides guidance on the physics and technical aspects behind PET and PET/CT image distortions. Cases are presented to provide nuclear medicine and radiology professionals with an assortment of examples of possible image distortions and errors in order to support a correct image interpretation. Nearly 70 typical PET and PET/CT cases, comprising image sets and cases, have been collected in this volume, all catalogued and augmented with explanations as to the causes of, and solutions to, each individual image problem. The atlas will prove useful to physicists, physicians, technologists, and service engineers in the clinical field.
