Introduction : internet est une source d'information de plus en plus utilisée par les patients. Le choix de la participation à un dépistage nécessite une information fiable et objective. Il n'y actuellement pas de preuve scientifique de l'intérêt d'un programme de détection précoce des cancers de la cavité buccale. L'information délivrée sur internet à ce sujet est elle de qualité et peut-elle aider à la prise de décision ? Méthode : sélection de sites internet parmi 200 requêtes effectuées sur google chrome puis évaluation qualitative en binôme indépendant via scores DISCERN et IPDAS des sites francophones concernant la détection précoce des cancers de la cavité buccale. Un lien a été recherché entre la présence de 10 différents marqueurs et les caractéristiques des sites avec les scores DISCERN et IPDAS. Résultats : 27 sites ont été sélectionnés. Les scores DISCERN allaient de 15 à 40 (sur 75), les sites avaient tous un score IPDAS inférieur à 40 (sur 100). L'information était facilement accessible mais rarement objective et complète. Seule la présence d'une bibliographie était statistiquement liée à une meilleure qualité de l'information. Conclusion : la qualité des informations concernant la détection précoce des cancers de la cavité buccale sur Internet est pauvre. Internet n'est pas un bon support pour le choix éclairé du patient. L'aide à l'analyse critique semble devoir rester une priorité pour les professionnels de santé.

Selon les estimations de 2021 de l’Organisation Mondiale de la santé, le cancer du côlon était en 2020 la 3ème cause de cancer la plus fréquemment diagnostiqués dans le monde avec 1,93 millions de cas. Il représente également, cette année-là, la seconde cause de décès par cancer avec 935 000 décès. Le dépistage régulier tous les deux ans chez les patients âgée de 50 à 74 ans, asymptomatique et sans facteurs de risque est recommandé afin d’obtenir un diagnostic précoce permettant une prise en charge rapide et ainsi améliorer le pronostic vital des patients atteints. A l’heure actuelle, la population à risque de cancer du côlon a facilement accès à Internet. A la suite de l’annonce du diagnostic de cancer, les patients vont le plus souvent être à la recherche d’informations vis-à-vis de leur maladie et s’orienter vers des sources qui leur sont facilement accessibles comme les sites Internet. Une information de qualité médiocre peut être responsable d’échec thérapeutique tandis qu’une information fiable permet d’augmenter l’adhésion thérapeutique des patients. Peu d’étude se sont intéressées à l’évaluation de la qualité de l’information fournie par les sites Internet sur le cancer du côlon et, à notre connaissance, aucune ne concernait les sites Internet français. Malgré la quantité d’informations mises à disposition des patients, on ignore dans quelle mesure ces informations retrouvées sur les sites consacrés au cancer du côlon sont facilement lisibles, compréhensibles et surtout fiables. Depuis plusieurs années, des associations et organismes institutionnels partageant la même envie de sécuriser les sites Internet de santé ont développé des outils d’évaluation de la qualité de ces sites. Parmi ces outils, certains restent inaccessibles au grand public du fait de leur difficulté d’utilisation. Ce travail se compose de trois parties. La première partie présente le cancer du côlon, l’intérêt du dépistage précoce et les différentes stratégies thérapeutiques utilisées pour traiter cette pathologie. La deuxième partie consiste à dresser un état des lieux de l’utilisation d’Internet par les patients et présenter les différents outils disponibles pour analyser la fiabilité des sites de santé. Une analyse de la bibliographie sur la qualité de l’information retrouvée sur Internet par des patients atteints de cancers variés à également été réalisée dans cette partie. Enfin, la troisième partie nous permettra d’analyser la qualité des sites Web consacrés au cancer du côlon à l’aide d’une grille d’évaluation regroupant des critères facilement accessibles aux patients pour juger de la fiabilité de l’information fournie sur un site.

La diffusion d’internet a entrainé un accès plus facile à l’information médicale pour les patients mais l’information trouvée sur internet n’est pas toujours de bonne qualité. Une étude transversale descriptive et analytique a été menée en 2015 afin de mesurer la qualité de l’information contenue sur internet à propos du diagnostic précoce des cancers cutanés. L’évaluation des sites internet a été réalisée à l’aide de l’outil DISCERN et du score IPDAS pour mesurer la qualité, l’objectivité et l’apport de l’aide à la décision. Des marqueurs de qualité de l’information médicale facilement identifiables ont été recherchés. 42 sites internet ont été inclus. La qualité de l’information contenue sur internet à propos du dépistage des cancers cutanés est très pauvre ou pauvre pour 69,1 % des sites internet étudiés selon l’outil DISCERN (score moyen=34,9 ; écart type=10,4). Le score IPDAS a mis en évidence que les sites internet sont globalement de mauvais outils d’aide à la décision des patients (score moyen=29,3/100 ; écart type=10,5). Aucun des marqueurs n’était significativement lié à la qualité de l’information. Les résultats de cette étude mettent en évidence qu’en l’absence de gouvernance de l’internet il est nécessaire d’appliquer la plus grande prudence vis à vis de l’information que l’on peut y lire.
