Book Description
Excerpt from Psycho-Therapy, Its Doctrine and Practice There must be always considerable satisfaction to the writer of a first book when the edition is exhausted within a few months of its publication, and I confess to this feeling in an additional degree because in the present work I have endeavoured to put forward Psycho-therapy from a new point of view, and one which I venture to think is especially my own. Its appearance has also marked my first visit to England, and, as the production of a new comer, has won its way purely on merits of its own. I am very glad to find that it has possessed sufficient warrants in the eyes of the English public to have achieved such a measure of success. There is another point of view from which I must express my pleasure in these few words of prefix to the second edition. I refer to the welcome which this record of my work has received at the hands of the general press. It has been encouraging on a much more important ground than that of an authors anxiety that he or she should not have been at work in vain. Book Description
Hailed by Jerome Frank as “the best book that exists on the subject, today and for the foreseeable future,” Irvin D. Yalom’s The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy has long been the standard text in its field. Indeed, in a survey reported in the American Journal of Psychiatry, it was cited as one of the ten most influential psychiatry publications of the past decade, and it was one of the very few judged to be of “seminal or lasting value.”In this completely revised and expanded fourth edition—updated to reflect the American Psychiatric Association’s latest diagnostic manual, the DSM-IV—Dr. Yalom presents the most recent developments in the field, drawing on nearly a decade of new research as well as his own broad clinical wisdom and experience. This edition features new sections on combining individual and group therapy, the latest information about brief group therapy, and how to modify group work to deal with the newly emerging homogeneous focal groups (including survivor groups), as well as updated references and new clinical vignettes drawn from the author’s recent practice.Throughout, Dr. Yalom has updated the style and content of the chapters, while retaining valid research and clinical observations. Illustrating the text are vivid cases from nearly two thousand group sessions that he has led over the past decade. The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy is an informative text that is at once scholarly and lively. This new edition is the most up-to-date, incisive, and comprehensive text on group therapy available today.

Book Description
Excerpt from Psychotherapy Hence the whole first part of this book is an ab stract discussion and its first chapters have not even any direct relation to disease. I am convinced that both physicians and ministers and all who are in prsc tical contact with these important questions ought to be brought to such painstaking and perhaps fatiguing inquiry into principles before the facts are reached. To those who seek a discussion of life facts alone, the whole first part will of course appear to be a tedious way around; they may turn directly to the second and third parts.
