The Institutionalisation of the SADC Protocol on Education and Training
Author: Pamela Watson
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Comparative education
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
Regional integration is being proposed as a means to development in Southern Africa. As a part of the formal agreements regarding this cooperation, a Protocol on Education in the Southern African Development Community region has been signed. This research set out to compare the higher education systems of two Southern African countries and to examine the extent to which this Protocol has had an impact on national policies and practices. The research sought to investigate this by means of exploring the extent to which the Protocol has provided an institutional frame which is guiding the development of higher education policy in each of the two countries. The findings of the study indicate that the Protocol, rather than providing leadership in the area of education policy, is to a large extent a symbolic document, reflective of norms already existent in national policy in the two countries studied.

The Southern African Development Community Treaty-Nexus
Author: Korwa Gombe Adar
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 1666930245
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 289
Book Description
Since its establishment in 1980 the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has largely been a state driven organization, with the people of Southern Africa, though enshrined in the treaty, remaining observers in the SADC democratization and integration agenda. The Southern African Development Community Treaty-Nexus: National Constitutions, Citizen’s Sovereignty, Communication, and Awareness, edited by Korwa Gombe Adar, Dorothy Mpabanga, Kebapetse Lotshwao, Thekiso Molokwane, and Norbert Musekiwa, brings in the people of Southern Africa, the key beneficiaries of the integration agenda, in the SADC democratization and integration epistemology. Using the new concepts of sadcness and sadcnization, this book operationalizes from legal, communication, and awareness perspectives, the nexus of the people of Southern Africa, democratization, and integration in the SADC region. From legal and communications lenses, the contributors argue that democratization and integration are about people (citizens), the sovereigns, and not merely the abstract actors called nation states. Using the case studies of Angola, Botswana, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, the contributors engage in this epistemology and assess, among other things, the peoples' of Southern Africa—the Southern Africa Development Community integration nexus.

Trade, Migration and Law
Author: Victor T. Amadi
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000563715
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 176
Book Description
This book explores how law and policy makers within the Southern African Development Community regional structure might reform the legal and regulatory frameworks to best capitalise the benefits of the movement of people, drawing lessons from other experienced jurisdictions by critically engaging with the regulatory efforts and approaches in regions such as the European Union, the Economic Community of West African States, and the East African Community to propose a revised approach to migration governance and practice in the SADC. Deeper regional integration allows citizens to move freely across national boundaries, and services are a rising component of global trade and investment. However, global trade in services is stifled by barriers at and behind the border. These barriers make it difficult for service providers from developing regions to access key markets in their preferred modes of service trade. Against this background, this book aims to take the discussion on furthering regional integration and trade through the movement of people by tackling issues on stringent immigration policies, arguing that having a vibrant and rewarding trade in services will require an approach towards the unrestricted movement of persons.

Sustaining Higher Education Through Resource Allocation, Learning Design Models, and Academic Development
Author: Makua, Manyane
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 1668470608
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 351
Book Description
Conversations, debates, and policies toward higher education remain in an uncritical mode of normality on issues such as inclusion, exclusion, and equity. In addition, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has starkly highlighted the fragility of the higher education system and has raised salient questions related to inclusivity and quality in all aspects. Sustaining Higher Education Through Resource Allocation, Learning Design Models, and Academic Development fills a gap in the existing literature by introducing current practices and procedures in the face of the new normal as they affect the higher education sector. The book also addresses the various issues of current interest in the higher education sector relative to teaching and learning, student support, staff development, curriculum development, educational technologies, learning design models, and resource allocation. Covering key topics such as student engagement, assessment practices, and academic development, this premier reference source is ideal for administrators, researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners, instructors, and students.
