La présente recherche à l'échelle laboratoire porte sur le couplage du procédé chimique METIX-AC aux ultrasons (METIX-AC-US) pour la décontamination métallique, la conservation des propriétés fertilisantes et le conditionnement de boues d'épuration municipales. Dans une première étape de caractérisation en eau, il est montré que le suivi par spectrophotométrie UV des ions NO2- et NO3- formés est aussi fiable que la dosimétrie à l'iodure de potassium. Des efficacités sonochimiques similaires résultent de l'élévation d'un facteur de trois du rapport diamètre du réacteur/puissance acoustique volumique à surface émettrice constante. Cette conclusion d'intérêt économique est confirmée lorsque la puissance électrique effectivement consommée est prise en compte au lieu de la puissance acoustique. L'efficacité sonochimique décroît alors lorsque la hauteur d'eau (29-348 mm) augmente à 371 et 504 kHz alors que l'effet est non significatif à 22 kHz. L'effet de la fréquence sur la répartition du champ acoustique est supposé. Dans une deuxième étape, le procédé METIX-AC-US est appliqué aux boues dopées en Cu et Zn. À des teneurs en matière sèche (ST) de 0,4 et 2,1%, la décontamination est similaire (180-5600 kJ.kg-1bs) à moindre (70000 kJ.kg-1bs) pour Cu et similaire pour Zn par rapport au procédé METIX-AC. Pour un coût similaire à METIX-AC, le seuil réglementaire pour l'épandage n'est respecté qu'à 190 kJ.kg-1bs à 504 kHz. La conservation des propriétés fertilisantes et la qualité du conditionnement est similaire à moindre en METIX-AC-US (ST=2,1%). Les effets de la fréquence et de l'énergie spécifique acoustique sur la spéciation, ainsi que les propriétés des flocs, sont étudiés.
