Results are presented for a study of the pressure and heat-transfer distributions and force characteristics of slab delta wings of 70° sweep at Mach numbers of 6.8 and 9.6 in air and 18 in helium. The wings had cylindrical leading edges and were tested with two different noses. One was sharp in plan view and the other was a tangent sphere with the same diameter as the cylindrical leading edge. Simple approaches to predicting the heat transfer are shown to be successful if the flow pattern peculiar to the angle-of-attack range under consideration is taken into account.

High pressure has become a basic variable in many areas of science and engineering. It extends from disciplines of geophysics and astrophysics through chemistry and physics to those of modern biology, electrical and chemical engineering. This breadth has been recognized for some time, but it was not until the early 1960's that an international group of scientists and engineers established the Association Internationale for Research and Advancement of High Pressure Science and Technology (AIRAPT) for bringing these various aspects of high pressure together at an international conference. The First AIRAPT International High Pressure Conference was held in 1965 in France and has been convened at approximately two to three year intervals since that time. The past four AIRAPT International High Pressure Conferences have been held in Germany, Scotland, Japan and the U.S.S.R. Abstract: An experimental investigation was conducted to obtain information on air-flow uniformity and pressure-level effects for various meshes of stainless-steel corduroy wire cloth, and permeability and strength data for a 20- by 20-mesh stainless-steel wire cloth. It was found that close control of the wire cloth thickness yielded sufficiently uniform air flow and that available methods may be used to predict the effect of pressure level. Permeability and strengths of the 20- by 20-mesh wire cloth were similar to those already available from other meshes. The reduced tensile strength of the 20- by 20-mesh wire cloth in the direction of the primary stresses is one and a half to three times as great as the strength of the best porous sintered materials presently available.
