John married Margaret Cummings in 1780. She was the daughter of Caleb Cummings and Dorothy Dacres. John and Margaret had eight children. John served in the Revolutionary War and is believed to have lost his arm in that conflict. John died on October 25, 1804 in South Carolina. Margaret died in Monroe County, Georgia on March 22, 1842. Descendants lived in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, North Carolina and elsewhere.
