Book Description
Excerpt from Pictures of an Inland Sea These pictures, if such slight memoranda can fitly be called pictures, now appear in their fourth guise. They were, in part, first issued as newspaper and magazine articles, and secondly as an illustrated pamphlet. The latter publication was given an extensive circulation on both sides the Atlantic, having passed through many issues, so that, in that form at least, they appear to contain - some ten years having elapsed between the first and last editions - a lasting vitality. They were also distributed in book form as presentation souvenirs, very few of these, however, having been seen by the public. It was the interest accorded to the earlier issues of the word pictures that led to their being bought out in the present volume, and in which an entirely new arrangement of the matter they contain has been made. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. Book Description
Excerpt from Our Inland Sea: The Story of a Homestead Our Inland Sea now appears in its final form. It was, in part, first issued as news paper and magazine articles, and secondly as an illustrated pamphlet. The latter publication was given an extensive circulation on both sides the Atlantic, having passed through many issues, so that in that form, the work appeared to contain - ten years having elapsed between the first and last editions - a certain vitality. It was originally printed in book form - Boston, 1895 - for use as. A presentation souvenir; few of these volumes, however, having been seen by the public. Once again it was issued in book form, locally, 1902. In the present volume there is much additional, and an almost entirely new arrangement of the matter that the work contains. Book Description
Excerpt from On the Shores of an Inland Sea Azure of the ocean for a dozen miles away from its mouth, - and the morning dawned to find us at Victoria, B. C. We were there only a few hours, just time enough to visit the long, low government buildings and the business portion of the town, and then steamed to Port Townsend, our last stop in the United States. Port Townsend has a street railway, - at least the tracks are there, - and it is rumored that once every hour the car makes a trip. Of course, at such long intervals, it would be a small waste of time to ask your friend, to whom you are chatting on the corner, to wait for the next car he would grow hoary-headed while waiting, and would then have to be identified, when he reached home. So the car jogs along the even tenor of its way, unmindful whether the passengers take it or walk; and as the Port is very tiny, that latter alternative does not seem to incommode any one. Book Description
Excerpt from Pictures of Ships and the Sea This summer I have come to understand as never before the glory of sailing a boat. I own a small craft, which I have named The Golden Arrow. Sailing a boat calls for quick action, a blending of feeling with the wind and water as well as with the very heart and soul of the boat itself. Sailing teaches alertness and courage, and gives in return a joyousness and peace that but few sports afford. Book Description
The Pathfinder or, The Inland Sea: Large print by James Fenimore Cooper "Ten days since, child, I would have sworn to it; but now I hardly know what to believe. May I take the liberty of asking, Arrowhead, why you fancy that smoke, now, a pale-face's smoke, and not a red-skin's?" We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic work, and that for you it becomes an enriching experience.
