The orders will not run into money like shrubs, roses or trees, as they are less expensive, but dozens and hundreds can be sold where singles and half-dozens are disposed of in other classes of stock. There is hardly a home in this country where it is not possible to interest the owner in some of these Hardy Perennial Plants as they are a con stant source of joy in the summer months. Study the descriptions so that you know what you are selling, and you will have no trouble in showing any householder where it would be desirable to plant some of this stock. In the back of the book you will find Cannas, Dahlias' and Gladioli, which should be sold only for spring shipment. Remember we do not wish any orders for this class of stock for fall shipment. The smaller the garden the more choice should be the collection, and the more highly should it be cultivated. I shall be glad if anything I say tends in this direction. When one takes into account the expense incurred in propagating-houses during the winter, the care and attention necessary to the raising of the thousands of t'ender plants, their protection from fr'ost, hardening-off in spring, and their constant renewal each year, with their planting in May or June, a season at which the flower garden should be a mass of beauty, he commences to realize that he does not receive the return for his expenditure which it is fair to expect. -now, with the expenditure of one year's cost of bedding-plants, in Hardy Flowers, one may obtain results far more satisfactory, and, instead of an utter blank of flowers in spring and late fall, as with bedding-plants, one may secure a continuous succession of bloom, and in a variety which it is impossible to obtain with tender plants.
