Book Description
The number of countries where the total fertility rate is below 2.1 children per woman increased more than ten-fold during the last four decades. This report focuses on the influence of marital or partnership behaviour on fertility levels and trends, resulting in below-replacement fertility. Social trends considered include increasing cohabitation, higher age of first marriage, higher proportions of never-married women over age 30, and the rapid fall in the marriage rate in the 1990s. While all low-fertility societies share fundamental societal features, many of their socio-economic and cultural features vary and thus shape the differences of demographic characteristics.

Book Description
Well-focused sample surveys can greatly enhance the demographers' ability to document and understand various aspects of partnership and reproductive behaviour. In the late 1980s the Population Activities Unit (PAU) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe initiated a long-term sample survey programme. The aim was to conduct comparable Fertility and Family Surveys in about 20 countries; create Standard Recode Files; prepare Standard Country Reports; carry out a programme of cross-country comparative studies. This publication on Slovenia is the 18th in the series of Standard Country Reports.

Book Description
This volume summarizes the major findings of the Princeton European Fertility Project. The Project, begun in 1963, was a response to the realization that one of the great social revolutions of the last century, the remarkable decline in marital fertility in Europe, was still poorly understood. Originally published in 1986. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
