Book Description
American criminal justice is a dysfunctional mess. Cops are too violent, the punishments are too punitive, and the so-called Land of the Free imprisons more people than any other country in the world. Understanding why means focusing on color—not only on black or white (which already has been studied extensively), but also on green. The problem is that nearly everyone involved in criminal justice—including district attorneys, elected judges, the police, voters, and politicians—faces bad incentives. Local towns often would rather send people to prison on someone else’s dime than pay for more effective policing themselves. Local police forces can enrich themselves by turning into warrior cops who steal from innocent civilians. Voters have very little incentive to understand the basic facts about crime or how to fix it—and vote accordingly. And politicians have every incentive to cater to voters’ worst biases. Injustice for All systematically diagnoses why and where American criminal justice goes wrong, and offers functional proposals for reform. By changing who pays for what, how people are appointed, how people are punished, and which things are criminalized, we can make the US a country which guarantees justice for all. Key Features: Shows how bad incentives, not "bad apples," cause the dysfunction in American criminal justice Focuses not only on overincarceration, but on overcriminalization and other failures of the criminal justice system Provides a philosophical and practical defense of reducing the scope of what’s considered criminal activity Crosses ideological lines, highlighting both the weaknesses and strengths of liberal, conservative, and libertarian agendas Fully integrates tools from philosophy and social science, making this stand out from the many philosophy books on punishment, on the one hand, and the solely empirical studies from sociology and criminal science, on the other Avoids disciplinary jargon, broadening the book’s suitability for students and researchers in many different fields and for an interested general readership Offers plausible reforms that realign specific incentives with the public good.

Book Description
Traditional separation of powers theories assumed that governmental despotism will be prevented by dividing the branches of government which will check one another. Modern governments function with unexpected complicity among these branches. Sometimes one of the branches becomes overwhelming. Other governmental structures, however, tend to mitigate these tendencies to domination. Among other structures courts have achieved considerable autonomy vis-à-vis the traditional political branches of power. They tend to maintain considerable distance from political parties in the name of professionalism and expertise. The conditions and criteria of independence are not clear, and even less clear are the conditions of institutional integrity. Independence (including depolitization) of public institutions is of particular practical relevance in the post-Communist countries where political partisanship penetrated institutions under the single party system. Institutional integrity, particularly in the context of administration of justice, became a precondition for accession to the European Union. Given this practical challenge the present volume is centered around three key areas of institutional integrity, primarily within the administration of justice: First, in a broader theoretical-interdisciplinary context the criteria of institutional independence are discussed. The second major issue is the relation of neutralized institutions to branches of government with reference to accountability. Thirdly, comparative experience regarding judicial independence is discussed to determine techniques to enhance integrity.

Book Description
This is a personal experience of one who has suffered in the court system as a plaintiff four times. It is a courageous detailing and exposure of the manuevering by the lawyers and judges. The experiences of such injustices has inspired this book as well as a CD.For one who is in the right, looking for justice must be in tune to the corrupt lawyers and judges- they manipulate the laws, cover up evidence and make deals to serve their compatriots and themselves. The black-robed men cover their sins, they think they have Carte Blanche to play God with ones life. Why would you address a judge as "your Honor"when most are totally devoid of 'honor'? Their conduct is a curse, the way they cheat the public- they have possibly become the worse thieves. They think they are above the law-but they are not above God. Their wheelings and dealings that go on behind the scenes- on the golf courses, at parties, in restaurants are dispicable. ALL MOTIVATED BY GREED and SELFISHNESS.KARMA will get all the bedeveilled- for some it has already happened. We need honesty and logic back in our courts that our forefathers founded for us.This is to all who have received no justice in the Judicial system. "Know that you are not alone".On a positive note, I like to believe that there are some honest lawyers and judges out there-though I have not found one.

Book Description
True Crime/Law/Current Affairs/Political Science and Government Provocation Sparkman use thought-provoking cases to illustrate the failures of a trial system we revere only because we have been told it is the best in the world — a system we have been too arrogant to question. Charley “I won’t leave any witnesses next time.” Charley stated after being sentenced to ten years for the rape of three women. He subsequently pulled just over two years. Dwayne I asked Dwayne when he would stop committing crimes. He smiled his warm smile and replied. “When I’m dead.” Myth America has the greatest and fairest legal system conceived by the mind of man. Truth America has a trial system that cannot control crime and has legal services that are too complex and too expensive. More Truth We have a large legal profession — criminal defense lawyers — who labor to return drunk drivers to our streets, burglars to our homes, and child molesters to our neighborhoods. Revelation It works! We have the highest crime rate in the world with no apparent remedy other than surrendering our rights and building a police state. Solution Scrap our trial system and build a new one, effecting the most fundamental change in American government since 1789. Read Failed Justice, then send it to our leaders.

Its scope reaches from the US Department of Justice to the US Senate to the White House and is a scathing attack on prosecutors, judges, and all those who turned a blind eye to egregious injustices in the aftermath of the Enron collapse. The ramifications continue today as this corrupt cabal of former prosecutors now populates powerful political positions.

Book Description
With experience as both a trial and appellate judge, Charles Benjamin Schudson knows the burdens on judges. With engaging candor, he takes readers behind the bench to probe judicial minds analyzing actual trials and sentencings—of abortion protesters, murderers, sex predators, white supremacists, and others. He takes us into chambers to hear judges forging appellate decisions about life and death, multimillion-dollar damages, and priceless civil rights. And, most significantly, he exposes the financial, political, personal, and professional pressures that threaten judicial ethics and independence. As political attacks on judges increase, Schudson calls for reforms to protect judicial independence and for vigilance to ensure justice for all. Independence Corrupted is invaluable for students and scholars, lawyers and judges, and all citizens concerned about the future of America's courts.

Book Description
The Messiah and Me is the story of a Jewish girl who accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior despite a longstanding aversion to anything even remotely associated with Christianity. The story begins in New Jersey and describes how the author's early exposure to Catholicism informed her thinking and understanding of Christianity throughout her childhood and adolescence. The narrative takes the reader on a spiritual journey across the country and through many of the experiences that characterized the 1960s. As the author describes her search for understanding, she deconstructs many of the misconceptions about Jesus and re-presents him as the Jewish Messiah. The Messiah and Me offers a conservative, yet contemporary, view of Christianity, contrasting it with post-modern views on religion and morality. This is a book that can correct misconceptions, break down barriers, and open the door for both Jews and Gentiles to embark upon a personal relationship with the Messiah.
