Book Description
Optical Constants of Water in the Infrared: The results of earlier studies of reflection and absorption in various spectral regions are reviewed and then used to provide values of the complex index of refraction N = n + ik of water at 27 C in the spectral range 1/5000-10 cm, corresponding to wavelengths in the range 2 micrometer to 1 mm. Values of n, k, and the Lambert absorption coefficient alpha, which are presented graphically and in tabular form, should prove useful in studies of the scattering of infrared radiation by water droplets in the atmosphere and in studies of radiative heat balance at water surfaces. Optical Properties of Sea Water in the Infrared: Quantitative measurements of the ratio of the infrared spectral reflectance of standard sea water at near-normal incidence to the corresponding spectral reflectance of pure water at 27 C were made. The infrared spectral reflectance of standard sea water was determined from the measured ratio and the known optical constants for pure water. The real n(v) and the imaginary k(v) parts of the complex index of refraction of standard sea water were then determined by Kramer-Kronig methods. The results obtained for the standard sea water are compared with previous results obtained for pure water and with previous studies of sea water.

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences
Author: Wade H. Shafer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468426044
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 300
Book Description
Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by TPRC at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemina tion phases of the activity was transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we have concluded that it will be in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by a well-known publishing house to assure improved service and better communication. Hence, effective with this Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences will be disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. As we embark on this new partnership with Plenum, we also initiate a new venture in that this important annual reference work now covers Canadian universities as well as those in the United States. We are sure that this broader base will greatly enhance the value of these volumes.

A Bibliography of Certain Optical Properties of Liquid Water in the Infrared Region (1-2000 Microns).
Author: P. W. Davis
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 18
Book Description
A selective bibliography was compiled of references pertaining to the absorption spectra, reflectance spectra and optical constants of liquid water in the infrared from 1 micron to 2000 microns. Representative curves are presented for absorption, reflectance and index of refraction. There is a serious deficiency in the scientific literature on the infrared optical properties of sea water. (Author).
