The Ontario Food Processing Research & Services Committee met to determine priorities for food processing research in Ontario, reviewed recommendations from the Review of the Co- ordination Process for Publicly Funded Agri-food Research & Technology Transfer, and discussed implementation of the recommendations. This report reviews the state of the food processing industry and trends in 1998; reports actions taken on research & development recommendations made in 1997 regarding value-added products, food quality & safety, innovative technologies, support for research, regulatory matters, and communications; presents the Committee's response to the Review; and makes recommendations for 1998 research & development in four priority areas (value-added products & processing, food quality & safety, innovations, waste management) and recommendations not related to research & development. Appendices contain reports & research priority recommendations of the three expert sub-committees (cereal grains & oilseeds, fruit & vegetable products, meat products).
