Book Description
A numerical solution of the incompressible, two-dimensional, time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations, which is implicit in time as well as space, has been developed for the case of a uniform flow past a body with rectangular boundaries undergoing pitch oscillations. The Navier-Stokes equations are written in the form of the vorticity equation and the Poisson equation for the stream function, thus using the vorticity and stream function as dependent variables, rather than the velocity components and the pressure. The equations are written in a moving coordinate system fixed with respect to the oscillating body, which undergoes pitch oscillations about an arbitrary axis. (Author).

Mathematical Biology
Author: T. A. Burton
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 148318983X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 256
Book Description
Mathematical Biology: A Conference on Theoretical Aspects of Molecular Science is a collection of papers that covers various investigations in mathematical biology. The text tackles a wide range of topics, from biological equation models up to electrical phenomena in biological systems. The coverage of the text includes existence of a periodic solution for a two predator-one prey ecosystem modeled on a chemostat; mathematical treatment of nerve conduction and cardiac purkinje fibers; and models of positional information. The book will be of great interest to students, researchers, and practitioners of biological sciences.

Perturbed Functional Iterations
Author: Suhrit Dey
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1040014933
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 327
Book Description
Perturbed functional iterations (PFI) is a large‐scale nonlinear system solver. Nature is abundant with events simulated mathematically by nonlinear systems of equations and inequalities. These we call nonlinear models. Often, they are ill‐conditioned, meaning small changes in data causing huge changes in the output. PFI, previously called the perturbed iterative scheme (PIS), is a numerical method to solve nonlinear systems of equations in multidimensional space. Computational results demonstrate that this numerical method has some unique features, which have made it more practical for applications in engineering and applied mathematics. This book will guide readers in the proper use of PFI, both in theoretical and practical settings. Features: Ideal resource for postgraduates and professional researchers in science and engineering working in nonlinear systems Algorithmically simple enough for engineers and applied scientists to write their own software based on the contents
