Book Description
Following the model of previous Transportation Research Board (TRB) intermodal conferences, this conference provided a forum for discussion and information-sharing on the issues and developments affecting intermodal freight transportation planning and operations. The conference brought together more than 200 leaders and experts in intermodal freight transportation from the private sector, all levels of government, and the military. The goal was to take a collective look at how far the nation has come and at what remains to be done toward realizing the vision set forth in the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA). The discussions and findings from this conference provide useful input to the framers of the next surface transportation reauthorization scheduled for 2004. Included in the proceedings are conference presentations and the following appendices: (A) Intermodal Freight Transportation Report Card; (B) Summary of U.S. Department of Transportation Actions on Recommendations of the National Commission on Intermodal Transportation; (C) Conference Exhibits and Posters; and (D) List of Conference Participants.

Book Description
Trade flows across the three North American countries have increased substantially since the implementation of the North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA), but there is no movement toward developing a true North American Transportation Corridor Network. This report examines two types of North American transportation corridor networks. The first is a transportation infrastructure network that spans across the three North American countries, including highways, railroads, and port of entries which are all part of a large multimodal transportation network. The second type of networks analyzed, is a research network that is a collection and collaboration of organizations, individuals, and research that have the goal of improving transportation in North America. Through this research project, a group of transportation experts from the United States, Mexico and Canada was assembled through a webinar to discuss issues related to a North American transportation corridor plan. The formation of a North American transpotation center is recommended to research and educate government officials on the current and projected state of transportation in North America.

Book Description
This conference was the fifth in a continuing series of conferences and workshops on intermodalism that have been organized by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) since the passage of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA). The objective of the conference was to examine educational and training needs related to all aspects of intermodal transportation: technology, advanced logistics, information systems, planning, and management. Over a 3-day period, participants reviewed existing and developing transportation education programs across all disciplines and examined the roles of educational institutions, private industry, and government in setting an agenda for meeting intermodal transportation education and training needs. These proceedings contain the Chairman's summary, welcoming remarks, keynote address, case studies, status reports on current programs, and the response of a panel of distinguished transportation professionals to the conference findings.
