Book Description
Non-Additive Measure and Integral is the first systematic approach to the subject. Much of the additive theory (convergence theorems, Lebesgue spaces, representation theorems) is generalized, at least for submodular measures which are characterized by having a subadditive integral. The theory is of interest for applications to economic decision theory (decisions under risk and uncertainty), to statistics (including belief functions, fuzzy measures) to cooperative game theory, artificial intelligence, insurance, etc. Non-Additive Measure and Integral collects the results of scattered and often isolated approaches to non-additive measures and their integrals which originate in pure mathematics, potential theory, statistics, game theory, economic decision theory and other fields of application. It unifies, simplifies and generalizes known results and supplements the theory with new results, thus providing a sound basis for applications and further research in this growing field of increasing interest. It also contains fundamental results of sigma-additive and finitely additive measure and integration theory and sheds new light on additive theory. Non-Additive Measure and Integral employs distribution functions and quantile functions as basis tools, thus remaining close to the familiar language of probability theory. In addition to serving as an important reference, the book can be used as a mathematics textbook for graduate courses or seminars, containing many exercises to support or supplement the text.

Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319031554
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 207
Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive and timely report in the area of non-additive measures and integrals. It is based on a panel session on fuzzy measures, fuzzy integrals and aggregation operators held during the 9th International Conference on Modeling Decisions for Artificial Intelligence (MDAI 2012) in Girona, Spain, November 21-23, 2012. The book complements the MDAI 2012 proceedings book, published in Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) in 2012. The individual chapters, written by key researchers in the field, cover fundamental concepts and important definitions (e.g. the Sugeno integral, definition of entropy for non-additive measures) as well some important applications (e.g. to economics and game theory) of non-additive measures and integrals. The book addresses students, researchers and practitioners working at the forefront of their field.

Ordinary and Fractional Approximation by Non-additive Integrals: Choquet, Shilkret and Sugeno Integral Approximators
Author: George A. Anastassiou
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030042871
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 355
Book Description
Ordinary and fractional approximations by non-additive integrals, especially by integral approximators of Choquet, Silkret and Sugeno types, are a new trend in approximation theory. These integrals are only subadditive and only the first two are positive linear, and they produce very fast and flexible approximations based on limited data. The author presents both the univariate and multivariate cases. The involved set functions are much weaker forms of the Lebesgue measure and they were conceived to fulfill the needs of economic theory and other applied sciences. The approaches presented here are original, and all chapters are self-contained and can be read independently. Moreover, the book’s findings are sure to find application in many areas of pure and applied mathematics, especially in approximation theory, numerical analysis and mathematical economics (both ordinary and fractional). Accordingly, it offers a unique resource for researchers, graduate students, and for coursework in the above-mentioned fields, and belongs in all science and engineering libraries.

Sustainability
Author: Graciela Chichilnisky
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401148929
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 342
Book Description
of ecological (also biological) variables b which interact in their dynamic t evolution: det dbt dt = f (et, bt)' dt = 9 (et, bt)· Among the solution paths to this interaction between economic and ecologi cal variables, we look for those which are sustainable. Sustainable paths are typically those along which the values of certain key stocks are always pos itive, these key stocks being important environmental resources. The types of paths on which certain variables can be positive forever include station ary solutions with appropriate positivity conditions, or limit cycles or chaotic attractors satisfying the same positivity conditions. These paths, and the paths which approach them, constitute the set of sustainable paths. From amongst these we have to choose one or more which are in some sense the best. Note that rather than imposing positivity of certain stocks in the long run as a condition for sustainability, we would prefer to derive this as a characteristic of optimal solutions from more fundamental judgements about the valuation of stocks and flows: this is the route pursued by the papers in this volume. The introductory paper by Heal in Section I reviews these matters in gen eral terms, not going into technical details: it discusses the precedents for a concept of sustainability in welfare economics, and reviews alternative opti mality concepts and their connection to sustainability.

Nonlinear Integrals And Their Applications In Data Mining
Author: Zhenyuan Wang
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814470988
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 359
Book Description
Regarding the set of all feature attributes in a given database as the universal set, this monograph discusses various nonadditive set functions that describe the interaction among the contributions from feature attributes towards a considered target attribute. Then, the relevant nonlinear integrals are investigated. These integrals can be applied as aggregation tools in information fusion and data mining, such as synthetic evaluation, nonlinear multiregressions, and nonlinear classifications. Some methods of fuzzification are also introduced for nonlinear integrals such that fuzzy data can be treated and fuzzy information is retrievable. The book is suitable as a text for graduate courses in mathematics, computer science, and information science. It is also useful to researchers in the relevant area.
