Book Description
A synopsis of David Johns MERGER'. When Thomas Cork a devout Catholic dies, his advertising agency is inherited by his grandson Sean a 28 year old graduate from University who puts sport and business before girls. Following the demise of his grandfather Sean enters into a merger with Jewish entrepreneur George Wilcox the father of his platonic girlfriend Sadie who he has been in a friendship with him for three years. Despite trying not to be involved with females he finds himself propositioned by three girls in the space of a few days. First it is by the long legged black beauty Mandy Price, an artist. The following day it is by physiotherapist Terri Mason. Two days later he is caught in the web of his best pal's girlfriend, Debbie Greenwood. Whilst playing in a cup Final Sean is knocked out, but later recovers. In the bar, his drink of orange squash is doctored and he loses consciousness. Sadie drives him home and removes his clothes before putting him to bed. Not realizing he is in the bathroom she walks in and sees him naked for the first time. Stephen Talbot ends his relationship with Debbie Greenwood when he meets stunning hitchhiker Karen Steele. He persuades his father to employ her. Kevin, Stephen's younger brother starts a relationship with Sean's sister Iris. Early in their relationship she goes with him on a business assignment to a country club. Neither of them are aware, it is a nudist retreat. Sean introduces Debbie to his older brother Neil, a family doctor. She asks him to take her to a Charity fashion show where she is a model. The vicar has a nasty accident. A man in the audience offers a 1,000 to any model who would take off their bikini on stage. The following day Neil drives Debbie over to her parents house on Sunday after spending most of the night talking. Within a week Sean and Debbie have indicated their feelings for each other and share another night of passion. Neil is under the impression he is still going out with Debbie. Sean is a member of the Edgewarebury joggers club and helps to organise a camping trip. Neil is called out to an emergency when a young couple get stuck together whilst making love. Sean's and Stephen give chase when a car is stolen. They catch the thief who turns out to be a schoolboy and his young girlfriend. Sadie hopes that the forthcoming assignment overseas with Sean will take their relationship beyond the platonic stage. Zelda Whitways, is accused of murdering her former boyfriend solicitor Aubrey Cruxton. She is subjected to a harrowing experience at the police station. The charges are eventually dropped partly due to the intervention of her new boyfriend, Mark Morton. Sean's mother invites Iris, Kevin, Sean, Sadie, Neil and Debbie to come to Bournemouth to meet her new boyfriend, Rupert, an American author. Illness prevents Sadie from going, and a medical emergency delays Neil. Sadie's brother, Andrew a journalist returns from Israel and moves into a flat owned by Mandy. She ends her relationship with her boyfriend when she finds out he is gay, and moves back to her flat. Sadie is almost raped by a friend of her cousin. Her brother and Sean take this rapist out to a nearby country park and give him a good hiding. Later he is struck by a car and killed. His body is thrown into the lake. Suspicion falls on Sean and Andrew. However a cheating wife and her lover are charged with the offence. A bomb is planted on Mark's yacht. Fortunately Zelda and himself have just left the yacht in a dingy heading for a small deserted island, when the explosive device goes off and wrecks the yacht. They are reported missing, believed dead. The day after the explosion, a married couple in a small boat see their smoke signal coming from the island, and rescue them. An American couple who were filming in the yacht marina, obtained a video of the terrorists who planted the bomb. Karen Steele goes to see her friend in a house where she used to liv

Book Description
This book aims at being a comprehensive and pedagogical introduction to the concept of self-stabilization, introduced by Edsger Wybe Dijkstra in 1973. Self-stabilization characterizes the ability of a distributed algorithm to converge within finite time to a configuration from which its behavior is correct (i.e., satisfies a given specification), regardless the arbitrary initial configuration of the system. This arbitrary initial configuration may be the result of the occurrence of a finite number of transient faults. Hence, self-stabilization is actually considered as a versatile non-masking fault tolerance approach, since it recovers from the effect of any finite number of such faults in an unified manner. Another major interest of such an automatic recovery method comes from the difficulty of resetting malfunctioning devices in a large-scale (and so, geographically spread) distributed system (the Internet, Pair-to-Pair networks, and Delay Tolerant Networks are examples of such distributed systems). Furthermore, self-stabilization is usually recognized as a lightweight property to achieve fault tolerance as compared to other classical fault tolerance approaches. Indeed, the overhead, both in terms of time and space, of state-of-the-art self-stabilizing algorithms is commonly small. This makes self-stabilization very attractive for distributed systems equipped of processes with low computational and memory capabilities, such as wireless sensor networks. After more than 40 years of existence, self-stabilization is now sufficiently established as an important field of research in theoretical distributed computing to justify its teaching in advanced research-oriented graduate courses. This book is an initiation course, which consists of the formal definition of self-stabilization and its related concepts, followed by a deep review and study of classical (simple) algorithms, commonly used proof schemes and design patterns, as well as premium results issued from the self-stabilizing community. As often happens in the self-stabilizing area, in this book we focus on the proof of correctness and the analytical complexity of the studied distributed self-stabilizing algorithms. Finally, we underline that most of the algorithms studied in this book are actually dedicated to the high-level atomic-state model, which is the most commonly used computational model in the self-stabilizing area. However, in the last chapter, we present general techniques to achieve self-stabilization in the low-level message passing model, as well as example algorithms.

Book Description
Jonny is on a mission to punish careless political leaders. He is also a scientific researcher, having volunteered to be the subject of a daring cryonics trial that aims to push the bounds of human existence. Jonny has a habit too, he's just a little over fond of the occasional opiate or cannabinoid. It makes life that tiny bit more complicated for a young man on a moral crusade, a journey in which ups and downs become one and the same and what goes around always seems to come around.

Book Description
The Alliance planets had waged war with the Consortium planets for years. They have finally agreed to a truce. Then a previously unknown planet was discovered and its location and possible strategic advantages caused a new ripple in the pending peace. A terrible solution was suggested: destroy the planet. A joint fleet to accomplish that awful result was on it way to carry out the mission. But residing on the planet, if it could be called a planet, was a mysterious Old Man who had plans of his own. After thwarting every attempt to destroy his planet, he gave everyone on both sides a tremendous lesson in humility and effectively stopped their war. The Old Man then takes the crew of the Star Cruiser Infinity on a new mission that no one could have ever anticipated, a mission to save their universe. Admiral Jenki learns much about his past that had remained hidden within him and Captain Edmonds dramatically reunites with his severely disabled brother. Together they travel to an unknown place to confront a gigantic new threat.
