Nelson, transit inspector at the Twin Cities, in his recent annual report. The week having the largest number of shipments came earlier than last year, the peak of the 1931 fall shipping having been reached the second week in October, while in 1930 it was not reached until Thanksgiving. The total number of violations intercepted, however, Mr. Nelson states, is 20, the same as last year. They were as fol lows: Four violations of the Japanese beetle quarantine, 9 of the white-pine blister rust, and 7 of the narcissus bulb quarantine. Excerpt from News Letter, Bureau of Plant Quarantine, United States Department of Agriculture, Vol. 22: October 1, 1932 Because of the unusually dangerous gipsy moth infestation existing in southeastern Massachusetts, the district quarantine inspector at Middleboro has been instructed to spend as much time as possible visiting tourist camps located in this vicinity and to look over the equipment particularly when the stay at such camps has been of fairly long duration. At present most of the egg clusters have been deposited by the female moths and the equipment of tour ists who arrive at the camps from now on will not become infested. In a few cases, it has been reported that parties have been staying at camps for long periods.. In one such instance, egg clusters were found on the equipment be longing to a ran who later intends to move further sc-ln.
