Book Description
Excerpt from New Tabernacle Sermons There are two sides to the character of Samson. The one phase of his life, if followed into the particulars, would administer to the grotesque and the mirthful; but there is a phase of his character fraught with lessons of solemn and eternal import. To these graver lessons we devote our morning sermon. This giant no doubt in early life gave evidences of what he was to be. It is almost always so. There were two Napoleons - the boy Napoleon and the man Napoleon but both alike; two Howards - the boy Howard and the man Howard - but both alike; two Samsons - the boy Samson and the man Samson - but both alike. This giant was no doubt the hero of the playground, and nothing could stand before his exhibitions of youthful prowess. At eighteen years of age he was betrothed to the daughter of a Philistine. Going down toward Timnath, a lion came out upon him, and, although this young giant was weap onless, he seized the monster by the long mane and shook him as a hungry hound shakes a March hare, and made his bones crack, and left him by the wayside bleeding under the smiting Of his fist and the grinding heft of his heel. Book Description
Thomas De Witt Talmage (1832-1902) was a preacher, clergyman and divine in the United States who held pastorates in the Reformed Church in America and Presbyterian Church. He was one of the most prominent religious leaders in the United States during the mid- to late-19th century, equaled as a pulpit orator perhaps only by Henry Ward Beecher. He also preached to crowds in England. During the 1860s and 70s, Talmage was a well-known reformer in New York City and was often involved in crusades against vice and crime. During the last years of his life, Dr. Talmage ceased preaching and devoted himself to editing, writing, and lecturing. At different periods he was editor of the Christian at Work (1873-76) and New York; the Advance (1877-79).

Book Description
Beginning in 1886 A.B. Simpson began publishing a series of books called "Tabernacle Sermons." These books contained messages that he had preached in the Gospel Tabernacle, New York City, New York and subsequently published in eleven volumes. This book is a reprint of the original volume. The content has been kept as close to the original as possible. Spelling was modernized in a few places, and where there were obvious errors in the text (one or two), comparisons were made to later editions of his books to keep the author's intent.VOLUME 5In ChristThis book contains three volumes: The Four-Fold Gospel, The Christ Life, & The Christ Life And The Self Life (This book was originally printed as three separate books: The Four-Fold Gospel, Volume 5 of Tabernacle Sermons; The Christ Life, Volume 8 of Tabernacle Sermons; and The Christ Life And The Self Life, which was printed as an individual book.) Also added to "The Self Life" were two chapters taken from, "Standing On Faith." These chapters are: 14 "The Curse of Selfishness", and 15 "Ishmael and Isaac; Or the Death of Self."This volume deals with the basic essentials of coming into Christ and the Christian life. Though it contains the basics, it is by no means a shallow book only to be read by new or young believers. The section dealing with the self life is a worthy study for any stage of the believer's life.
