Narayana Guru
Author: Nancy Yeilding
Publisher: DK Printworld (P) Ltd
ISBN: 8124609705
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 173
Book Description
Here is a biography of Narayana Guru, which introduces him, faithful to his true form, as an embodiment of Wisdom. Indeed, it has been written by someone who has dedicated her life to the learning and teaching of this very Wisdom, especially as we humans may actualize it in our lives of the here and now. Although most extant biographies of the Guru were written by persons belonging to his own geographical and cultural background, this one stands an exception in this respect. The author of this work, Nancy Yeilding, belongs to and lives in a region and culture at the opposite side of the globe. Yet this can be no obstacle, because the Wisdom taught by the Guru is one in essence, which is life’s highest aim, guide, and joy, irrespective of all geographical and cultural differences. – Guru Muni Narayana Prasad

Not to Argue and Win but to Know and to Be Known - A Blue Sky Strategy
Author: Viswanathan C.N.
Publisher: Notion Press
ISBN: 1648507409
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 177
Book Description
Not To Argue And Win But To Know And To Be Known – A Blue Sky Strategy is a book on management and philosophy. Brahmarshi Sree Narayana Guru (28 August 1855 – 20 September 1928) convened and graced ‘The International Religious Congress’ at Aluva in Kerala in February 1924. His All- Holiness Guru pronounced the Canon of Love as a slogan of the Congress: “We meet here not to argue and win but to know and to be known.” The slogan reverberated across the globe crossing the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean. The author, honestly and most-indebtedly, borrowed the Mahamantra to be decorated at the present work as its pendant. The Great Rishi has 61 literary-mystic-philosophical creations to His credit, of which Darsana Mala is the Magnum Opus. It contains ten Darsanas of the ‘profoundest-mystical-intrinsic-intricacies’ so as to qualify it as Bhagavad Gita 2.0. The author of this book has accomplished his endeavour by ‘transforming the energy contained in the ten Darsanas to analogise and equate them to ten Management Sutras’. He honourably hopes that The Guru Darsanas are a high-end epiphany of management thoughts; those who follow them shall surf in the up-above blue sky of success. Hence it is ‘A Blue Sky Strategy.’ We submit it at the lotus feet of the Jagat Guru. AUM TAT SAT

Social Mobility In Kerala
Author: Filippo Osella
Publisher: Pluto Press
ISBN: 9780745316932
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
Filippo and Caroline Osella, anthropologists who spent three years in rural Kerala, south India, write about the modern search for upward social mobility: the processes involved, the ideologies that support or thwart it, and what happens to the people involved. They focus on the caste called Izhavas, a group that in the mid-19th century consisted of a small land-owning and titled elite and a large mass of landless and small tenants who were largely illiterate and considered untouchable, and who eked out a living by manual labor and petty trade. In the 20th century, Izhavas pursued mobility in many social arenas, both as a newly united caste and as families. The work considers how successful the mobility has been and looks at the effects on their society of an ethos of progress. Distributed by Stylus. Dr. Ambedkar and Untouchability
Author: Christophe Jaffrelot
Publisher: Columbia University Press
ISBN: 9780231136020
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 244
Book Description
"For years Ambedkar battled alone against the Indian political establishment, including Gandhi, who resisted his attempt to formalize and codify a separate identity for the Dalits. Nonetheless, he became law minister in the first government of independent India and, more important, was elected chairman of the committee which drafted the Indian Constitution. Here he modified Gandhian attempts to influence the Indian polity. He then distanced himself from politics and sought solace in Buddhism, to which he converted in 1956, a few months before his death." "Jaffrelot focuses on Ambedkar's three key roles: as social theorist, as statesman and politician, and as an advocate of conversion to Buddhism as an escape route for India's Dalits. In each case he pioneered new strategies that proved effective in his lifetime and still resonate today."--BOOK JACKET.
